Netanyahu's Announcement Seen By Many As Major Reversal, But Swiftly Rejected By Palestinians

- By requiring that Israel be recognized as a Jewish state Netanyahu makes a demand that no other country on earth makes - to be recognized as a specified religious state.
The vast majority of Israelis are Jews in the sense that their ancestry traces back to Judea. This is an ethnic description comparable-to a British or French or Spanish one.
And since when has any Jewish person been a first-class citizen in the Muslim world? There are hundreds of thousands of people of Jewish ethnicity who fled Muslim countries -- their descendents now represent millions of Israelis. - Reply to this comment
- Well at least the state he's proposing doesn't have to be unlegged!

- "Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu endorsed a Palestinian state beside Israel for the first time on Sunday, reversing himself under U.S. pressure but attaching conditions such as having no army that the Palestinians swiftly rejected.
A week after President Barack Obama's address to the Muslim world, Netanyahu said the Palestinian state would also have to recognize Israel as the Jewish state - essentially saying Palestinian refugees must give up the goal of returning to Israel. "
=========================================
By requiring that Israel be recognized as a Jewish state Netanyahu makes a demand that no other country on earth makes - to be recognized as a specified religious state. All other states are recognized as territorial entities first, the practiced religion is a descriptive footnote, for example Italy is not "The Catholic state of Italy". It is presumed that the majority of religion in Israel is Judaism, but then that's the rub isn't it? The Muslim majority is just a short distance away. - Reply to this comment
