9-Year Probe Reveals Decades Of Beatings, Rapes Ignored By Government, At Church-Run Institutions
- I guess the Catholic church thinks that all life is sacred until it's born.
After that, Priests are free to beat and rape them. - Reply to this comment
- So where are the morally outraged Notre Dame protesters?

- This isn't about religion. This is about an organization putting themselves above government, above law, and above judgment, monitoring, and the people around them allowing this to happen. If people weren't so ready to believe the priest, the nun, over the children, if they wanted to protect the children, if they required monitoring instead of turning a blind eye - immensely fewer children would have been abused, damaged and destroyed.
Doesn't matter what organization it is - when you give a group power and then don't monitor, you invite abuse. When the higher ups in that group decide that their own power and control is more important than the children they were supposed to help and protect, this is what happens. Pedophiles, abusers are enabled and rewarded with more children, the abused are disbelieved, discarded. - Reply to this comment

- Anybody who is shocked that the Catholic Church could be a party to and even promote such evil must either be denying or unaware of the Catholic Church's history. Several popes openly had mistresses only just a couple hundred years ago, of whom they sired children. All the while knowing that they were supposed to be celebate.
Daughters from prominent families often had to placed in covents if they couldn't afford the dowry for more than one of their girls. Those girls were denied the ability to have a full life and instead lived in abject poverty working day and night to help fill the coffers that went to sponsor the Vatican's ego as they built cathedral after cathedral lined with gold alters and priceless stained glass windows from the sweat of the poor. They dictated to Kings and wielded their power throught the world for hundreds of centuries.
So is it any wonder that they dictated to the Irish Government what legal responsibility to which they would be held accountable? How shameful that they allowed they to get away with it.
One weeps when they think of all the pain and sorrow that has been rained upon mankind from those who have been placed in charge at the Vatican throughout the years. They continue to show absolutely no remorse when they have proven to have caused great harm. Instead of asking forgiveness for their evil actions-they employ public relation firms that try and spin the abuse to be the fault of those harmed. They sole interest and concern is retaining the wealth that is no more than ill gotten gains. - Reply to this comment

You are fond of quoting Robert Owen, socialist and father of socialism. You must be ecstatically happy that your Savior and Redeemer, Obama is the President. Sorry, but Obama and Owen are just mortal men, they are not Gods. - Reply to this comment

Sounds like a cop-out to me. God proves himself daily. The Bible teaches us God will show us through miracles, wonders, and signs. It's amazing how people who choose not to believe have no reason behind their non-belief. It's your choice. May God bless all that you do. - Reply to this comment

So you think. That is certainly a convenient argument. How do you suppose that the Universe is so meticulously organized by accident? - Reply to this comment
- Lord help us. The Enemy is attacking every institution you have put in place. Everything from Churches, schools, families, to marriages. We need you more now than ever!

- All people are capable of evil, including every one of us here. All of us are vulnerable to corruption in all its forms. Severe problems with the Catholic Church and other institutions, including our own government, occur when there is secrecy and a lack of accountability.
It's not a problem of the Catholic Church, it's a problem of not watching the Church and demanding transparency.
I'm glad to see this report come out. I hope beyond hope that we learn our lessons from it -- that we all have an interest in the humane and responsible treatment of fellow human beings, children included, as performed in ANY of our institutions. We have a responsibility to keep an eye on things and make sure our churches, hospitals, prisons, group homes, schools, all of our institutions, are performing properly. Too often we think that's someone else's job. It isn't.

My evolutionary gained inteligence does not extend far enough for me to prove or otherwise the existence of a Mythological being that has absolutely no basis in fact.
My God given inteligence completely fails me, as though it was non existant - Reply to this comment

So, use your brilliant God given intelligence and prove to me that there is no God. Note my previous post:
While I cannot "prove," that God exists, neither can you "prove," that God does not exist. There is so much structured order in the Universe, I cannot believe that it all happened by "accident," as you must purport believe there is no God. I am a quilter, I make beautifully structured blocks which I assemble in layers. People ask me all the time, how did I do that? Well, to you I say, it was an "accident." There was a spontaneous explosion in the box where I keep my fabrics and when the dust had settled, there was this beautiful hand-pieced, king-sized quilt. It was amazing. What's more amazing, is that it happened about 150 times so far. - Reply to this comment
