Fidel Castro is just trying to strut. Just days ago he was being friendly toward the new US admin. I want to travel down there and actually have Cuban immigration stamp my passport!

President Obama is still campaigning, this time with the global leaders. He's looking for great photo ops and favorable press, instead of taking a position and sticking to it.

In the meantime, world leaders are laughing behind his back at how naive and shortsighted our President is.

If he'd stop trying to win the world's popularity contest and start driving the bus (instead of throwing this country under it), we'd see some genuine progress in international relations.

Raul and Fidel are still playing 'good cop/bad cop' and apparently the routine worked with President Obama.

No slap in the face. The person (Castro) making the statement is a nobody now. He turned the presidency over to his brother and he is Cuba's leader now . So anything Fidel says is BS and has no bearing.

Just tell Fidel and Raul we extended our hand and you slapped at it again. Guess the next step is back to embargos, sanctions, and blockades. Call us in another 50 years if you are ready to talk seriously.

You'll be dead soon Mr. Castro, and the world will peacefully move on without you.

Just like America is now that Bush and Cheney were mercifully evicted.

Obama probably went to the right source first.

Just because little brother holds the title doesn't meen he is actually in charge.

You are exactly right.
I am guessing but I think Fidel still runs Cuba when it comes down to it.

What has war, killing people and breaking things ever solved? Oh, WWII, sorry I forgot.

Didnt this story say FORMER Cuban leader Fidel. Not current. Obama got his information from the actual leader.

Taking the word of Fidel would be like other leaders in Europe getting their information from Rush Limbaugh or Larry Craig.

Obama probably went to the right source first.

Another international slap in the face for our esteemed president.

Posted by cambone2 at 6:59 AM : Apr 22, 2009

Not at all. This is clearly a problem between the FORMER leader of Cuba, who apparently wishes he were still in charge, and the CURRENT leader of Cuba. President Obama wisely dealt with the current leader, who seems to have at least some judgments separate from his brother. It is Fidel slapping Raul's face and has little to do with Obama. Fidel is a sick, old man and likely won't be around much longer. The question is whether Raul has enough courage to lead or whether he simply takes orders from his senile brother.

Well, goes1962, and the rest of our neighbors to the north. Cuba doesn't have much to offer except another vacation site which we don't need. So Castro can go pound sand for all I care.

Go ahead and trade your 'billions' with them and see what they send back. I have seen personally the affect of Castro's regime and his suppression of people Nothing should be done that implies it can be overlooked. Human rights belongs to everyone!
