Okay, I''m not even close to being finished ranting and raving!

How did this idiot think that this would effect this child? How did he think she was going to be able to eat? How long is it before all her permanent teeth would be in? What he did to her was CRIMINAL!!!

And on top of everything she had two MORONS for parents!

"One of the medical team told a coroner''s inquest that they removed all seven of her other baby teeth at the same time to avoid the need for future procedures."

To avoid the need for future procedures????
Are you kidding me? The kid had ONE cracked tooth. Why should there be any future procedures? This guy needs his license yanked and he needs to go to jail. You do NOT do this to a child!

And the parents are at fault also. If that was my child, after several days of eating NOTHING, she would have been taken to the emergency where they would have put her on intervenous!

Good grief, talk about medical malpractice. Pulling all the front teeth out of a little girl''s mouth for THEIR convenience. Poor girl probably was teased constantly for being toothless.

It''s hard to say if the parents were any less stupid. To watch their child become skin and bones because she wouldn''t eat. Then again, she was lacking teeth, which made eating a pain, along with her sore gums. She may have even had a dry socket and suffered from constant pain.

Then again, the girl, hard headed as she was, was also pretty stupid. Or used to the feeling of being hungry all the time.

This is criminal neglect, pure and simple. A parent should know they need to do something if their child has not eaten in a couple of days. Calling around doesn''t qualify. Letting 3 WEEKS go by is inexcusable.

Gaye5, it''s probably a bit simplistic to blame all of society''s ills on a lack of discipline for children. However, what you describe may indeed be part of the problem. As for this case, you''re right that a parent can and should force their child to eat when they refuse. My mom made me do, and eat, all kinds of things I didn''t want to. My refusal was not a viable option...If I tried, there was hell to pay that ended with her getting her way--every time.

Why didnt the parents take the child to hospital.
But also this lass was only 8 for goodness sake. Who had control in this family, obviously her, oh of course there is no such thing as discipline any more and as we cant smack a child because we are told it is brutality all she has to say is "no I wont and you cant make me", and she is right, they cant.....
We are told that we cant smack our children now as it hurts them psychologically, and they might turn into criminals. Funny how crime is epidemic now eh, funny how 40 years ago we could put our glass milk bottles out for the milkman with money in it and it didn%u2019t get stolen eh.. funny how we could walk down the street at midnight without fear of being hurt eh, funny how we learnt at school and became fantastic citizens because we feared that if we were naughty we might get the strap and if we were good we needn''t have any fear of the strap eh.. funny how everyone cared about everyone else eh, yep the strap when we were naughty sure did us a lot of damage eh..

Don''t they have emergency departments in hospitals in the UK? The kid was dying. The parents should have taken her somewhere to get help.

You guys need to experience the so-called "health care" system in the UK personally before you start looking for someone else to blame. This tragedy didn''t happen in the States (although many terrible things have happened in American hospitals) and who are you to judge the parents who kept contacting the medical "experts" for help for their child and received none?

The girls parents had abused her. This was her only way of fighting back.

This kid probably had lots of mental problems all her life, on top of her parents having their own shortcomings. This kid died due to parental stupidity.

Are you kidding me? If my child was not eating and about to die I wouldn''t just sit at home and watch. I would have taken my child back to the hospital and someone would have seen my child. To pull 8 teeth is absurd. I am totally holding the parents responsible. It IS their responsibilty to take care of their child. They were with her 24/7, not the doctors, not the psychologist. Them, parents, caregivers. They did not take care. I don''t care how the system is, if my child is dying, by God, someone is going to listen.

Lynnmac3-- I agree with you on the British healthcare system but not on the parent%u2019s responsibility. How could they believe that yogurt and watermelon could keep that child alive?

No, you cannot blame the parents without understanding how the British healthcare system works. In the UK you really are at the mercy of the doctors and their staff. If the doctor refuses to treat you, that is it, you are just out of luck. My mother was just 67 years old when she developed horrible pain, sudden unexplained weight loss, and debilitating fatigue. My sister took her to see her doctor 8 times over a 5 month period, only to be told that my mother was depressed. The doctor refused to order tests to determine what was really causing the symptoms. (We wanted her to be tested for cancer, but the doctor said no) Within months my mother died, her body riddled with cancer. Nothing was done to her doctor, not even a slap on the wrist. In the UK, doctors make more money if they don''t treat their patients and if they don''t send them for tests to find out what their problem is. The poor parents of this little girl are victims of the healthcare system.

"This could have easily been avoided, if we could have just gone to the hospital," Sophie''s father said.%u201C Sounds like a combination of bad health care and lack of common sense on the part of the parents. It%u2019s a tragedy that a child had to die because of it.

so it sounds like the parents what to blame the hospital. It is the parents fault, if your kid does not eat anything for 3 weeks regardless of why, and you don''t take drastic measures it is your fault. Parents and nobody else should be responsible for thier kids. My child is my responsibility, no one elses. At the same time my neighbors kid is not my responsibility or problem, it is totally up to my neighbor to take care of his own.
