I would like to hear Ahmadinejad respond to the accusation that he was one of the hostage takers during the Carter years.

You can tell a lot about a man by his enemies.

Remember Ahmadinejad is the holocaust denier, the man who states repeatedly that Israel should be blown off the map, who claims Iran is only stockpiling nukes for peaceful purposes. Yeah right.

President Obama would be wise to feed this megalomanical lunatic with a very, very long spoon.

. Wonder if our new Pres will bite...

what is so surprising? everyone wants to discuss their interests and try to further them. Maybe after 8 years of incompetence we''ve forgotton the basics of foreign policy (tranlated as neighborly)

I''ve always liked the idea of talking to these other nations.Unlike Bush,Chaney,Romney,McCain,Guilliani and other Republicans there has been one Republican who has been a lone voice in the Wilderness:

" We should be friends with Iran and other nations"."We should engage in talks and have trade." "They don''t hate because we''re free and prosperous, they hate us because we toppled their Democratic Goverment and placed a Dictator in it''s place". "We need and humble Foriegn Policy."
--- Republican Congressman Ron Paul

Iran will have to accept israel or it will never gain respect amongst the nations of the world.

well folks - above one of the stupidest comments ever!

who the kcuf cares if iran "accepts" israel or not, so long as WE get along normally with iran. this is what is meant by "national interests" - OUR interests are not israel''s interests. If israel wants to be accepted, then this psuedo-democratic jews only state better return the stolen land. Who accepts land-grabbers?

Diplomacy must always come before war. And, hopefully, fend off war. Without diplomacy, how will we resolve issues with Iran? Do we just write them off and attempt to destroy them without any negotiations? Even though I support the right of the nation of Israel to exist and disagree with Iran''s method of tactics with Israel, we still need to communicate with Iran and work for a real peace in the middle east. Iran will have to accept israel or it will never gain respect amongst the nations of the world.

I find it interesting that all the worlds radical despots love the new American president.

it''s not love - it''s called respect, something we lost the last 8 years with a half-wit being puppeted by a psycopath.

look at the neocon philospohy now....they sank the proud ship USA into recession, maybe depression -

decimated our armed forces, emptied our Treasury.

talk about a humbling experience.....

but we can be humble and strong but it has to reply on PRINCIPLE.

Keep your friends outside the tent while you invite your enemies inside the tent! Only an idiot would approach a problem with war! They have been fighting for millenia and would love nothing better than to have an excuse for further violence. And for you nay sayers and war mongers we have tried propping up tyrants through out the middle east and it never worked. Can you say the Shah of Iran? Saddam was the only balance with IRAN until recently and we assisted him in the war with IRAN. We gave him money and weapons. Diplomacy is the only answer. Only dumb as dirt repubs support war!

Iran is Isreals problem.Isreal has to stop trying to expand its territory and bullying its neighbors. To accomplish this the american taxpayer needs to defund Isreal.Let them pay for their own wars.

The "respect " Ahmedinejad deands is categorical acceptance by America that Iran could be a nuclear power like the U.S and that it could destroy Israel and any other state it does not like. They are actually trying to probe Obama''''s "change" in foreign policy.

Iran''s threat to nuke Israel is nothing more than lip service for the Iranian people. The government says it to make them look tough. But Iran could no more nuke Israel than we could have nuked the Soviet Union. MAD doctrine, after 60 years, still works today. Israel has an estimated 60 nukes, including a first-stike-survivable SSBN capability. Iran could "destroy" Israel, but there would be nothing left of Iran either, and they know it. So, Iran os going to spend billions and face sanctions for weapons tht are essentially useless.

It is ridiculous to hold grudges in politics. The Middle East has pursued this policy for millenia. Passing hatred to our children accomplishes perpetuating hatred. Let''s learn from that lesson and let bygones be bygones. Russia has nukes and hates us too. Let them have them. Make them afraid to use them like the rest of the world.

If Obama goes into talks with Iran, it will be an insult to every American service man and woman.

It looks like we may have another Jimmy Carter on our hands. The Iranians walked all over him and they will do the same to the Messiah if given the opportunity.

Carter was a wuss. I don''t think Reagan, Bush I or II, and probably Clinton, would have let them hold American hostage for 444 days without consequence.

I hope his being so naive does not put us in position for another attack. If he tries to make friends with those who wish to kill us, it may well make us vulnerable to another attack. I wish his name were not Hussein.
