If the Palestinians want an end to hostilities, surrender, declare peace, disarm, and give Israel your leaders. That way no one has to starve, no one has to get hurt, and no one has to die. Sounds like a win-win.

"1.5 million inhabitants of Gaza were being starved, as the U.N. special rapporteur on the right to food had found that acute malnutrition in Gaza was on the same scale as in the poorest nations in the southern Sahara, with more than half of all Palestinian families eating only one meal a day."

"(during the cease-fire) rocket firing was soon stopped and there was an increase in supplies of food, water, medicine and fuel. Yet the increase was to an average of about 20 percent of normal levels. "

Israel was starving the people - blockading food fuel and medicine. That''''s why hamas fired rockets.

If you were active in Hamas, you got all the food, fuel, medicine you needed. Who is the bad guy here, anyway??

Another day has passed. Did the Palestinians send missiles into Israel? Have the Palestinians turned their leaders over to Israel? Have the Palestinians surrendered? Have the Palestinians pledged peace? Have the Palestinians disarmed? And finally, did the Hamas leader in syria have steak and eggs for breakfast? Bet he isn''''''''t short on water, wine, eggs, and meat. What are the Palestinians waiting for?

Ynetnews.com reports on Condi Rice being ordered The US policies by Israeli Prime Minister.

"I said: ''''Get me President Bush on the phone,''''"
Olmert said in a speech in the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon. "They said he was in the middle of giving a speech in Philadelphia. I said I didn''''t care: ''''I need to talk to him now.'''' He got off the podium and spoke to me."

Olmert said he argued that the United States should not vote in favor, and the president then called Rice and told her not to do so. "She was left pretty embarrassed," Olmert said.

''''Rice was not at all embarrassed''''
McCormack, who pointed out that he was with Rice at the United Nations during the negotiations and vote, denied Olmert''''s characterization.

It appears that Israel learned some lessons from the war with Hezbollah. Things like bombing buildings that might be booby trapped, blowing holes in walls, and shooting at anything that appears suspicious make a great deal of sense in combatting urban warfare. The Palestinians should realize by now that they will lose. However, they still haven''''t surrended, declared peace, stopped sending missiles, disarmed, and they haven''''t delivered their leaders to Israel. Apparently, Gaza can withstand a lot more destruction.

Israel top negotiator should dictate to Hamas what will happen and how. And terms should be firm and non- negotiable. Hamas has not a leg to stand on and is in no position to expect anything. They have had their 15 mins and it''''s up, now they will find out how the real world operates.

After the hostilities end, Israel must make certain that the Palestinians are disarmed. They must not be allowed to have anything that even resembles a weapon. Israel should institute capital punishment for any Palestinian found with a weapon, any weapon. The same should hold true for explosives. Further, Palestinians should not be allowed to cover their faces to avoid identification. It is time that the Palestinians either shape up or be treated harshly.

The war in Gaza has become page two news. 14 days is about the limit of peoples interest in a war that doesn''''t involve them. Obama''''s bailout and the transfer of power in Washington takes top billing. Only 13% of Americans believe Israel is to blame for the current situation in Gaza and only 33%, according to Gallup, want the president to do any more to end this thing.
The general opinion is that Hamas needs to be whacked and let the Palestinians unite under Fatah and Abbas. Believe this is also the opinion of much of the Arab League.

Gotta hand it to Israel. It''s timing was pretty good. Whatever happens in Gaza has, and is continuing to get, some powerful competition for the worlds attention.

Hi Trapbreaker - Israel is best equipped to handle the Palestinians. There is no need for the United States to become involved. Further, let us hope that Israel doesn''t end this operation prematurely. Experience with the Palestinians has shown that they do not want peace, do not negotiate in good faith, and must be disarmed permanently.

Another thing that drives Muslims bezerk is that the son of a top HAMAS leader became a Christian a few months ago, and he now speaks out against the evil HAMAS and stands behind Israel and the Jewish people.

Know the Truth folks. Don''t fall for the wicked demonic propaganda that Muslims post on these forums.

Know the TRUTH, look it up, you all deserve it!

Here are a couple of things to Google:

"Son of HAMAS leader becomes a Christian"

"Walid Shoebat: Ex PLO terrorist"

www.shoebat.com

"children of jihad"

Children in GAZA taught to become suicide bombers for "allah"

Look these things up folks. You deserve to know the Truth. Ignore these Muslim cowards who come on these American message forums and post their anti-Israel anti-Jew anti-Christian anti-Western world propaganda.

These Muslim freaks wouldn''t know freedom if it slapped them in the face...because freedom isn''t a part of their religion. Their religion is nothing but oppression, death, and destruction.

There is no "peace" to it, but only "pieces" of dead bodies everywhere.

closethippy1, despite your Islamic effort, nobody is paying attention to your propaganda you are posting on these forums, got it?

You''re in your own little world. The rest of the sane world knows the evils of Islamic fundamentalism and the evil threat it presents to not only Israel, but the rest of the free world.

Everyone needs to google "Palestinian Media" and click on the first link.

You can watch several videos on what young Arab Muslim children are taught by HAMAS and other terrorists in the Middle East, to become suicide bombers for "allah" in a "shahada"(death for "allah") act for the cause of Islam.

Young Arab children in the Middle East are being taught this demonic hatred of the Jews, Israel, the West, and anyone else who won''t submit to Islam.

Look it up folks, you deserve to know the Truth.

Don''t pay attention to Arab propagandists desperate to have their lies heard like closethippy1.

KNow the Truth folks.

Simply google "Palestinian Media Watch" and go to the site.

There''s also information about what these young Arab chidlren are taught in their SCHOOL TEXTBOOKS about hating Jews.

I also highly advise you check out former PLO terrorist'' Walid Shoebat''s website, as he tells all.

His site is www.shoebat.com

Israel, as the militarily superior power, ought to take the first steps: Implementing a massive Marshall Plan in Gaza and in the West Bank to end poverty and unemployment, rebuilding infrastructure and encouraging investment, dismantling the settlements or making settlers become citizens of a Palestinian state, accepting 30,000 Palestinian refugees annually back into Israel for the next 30 years, apologizing for its role in the 1948 expulsions and offering to coordinate a worldwide compensation effort for all that Palestinians lost during the occupation and, finally, by recognizing a Palestinian state within borders already defined by the Geneva Accord of 2003.
It breaks my heart to see the terrible suffering in Gaza because it confirms to me how easy it is to pervert the loving message of Judaism into a message of hatred and domination. This is why I remain in mourning for the Jewish people, for Israel and for the world.

Neighbours

By A.B. Yehoshua

One-and-a-half-million people live in Gaza. They were born in Gaza or pushed there as refugees during the war of 1948, or in other wars. Over the course of the years, they were the masons who built our homes, they were the merchants from whom we used to buy goods, and workers in the greenhouses of the kibbutzim.
They are our neighbours, and we Israelis have no power to extirpate the Hamas government from Gaza, much as we did not have the power to eliminate the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) as the voice of the Palestinian people%u2019s national aspirations.
Ariel Sharon and Menachem Begin went all the way to Beirut in the early 1980s, paying a terrible and bloody price, to try to eliminate the PLO and what happened? In the end, Sharon and then Benjamin Netanyahu both ended up sitting down at the negotiating table with Yasser Arafat and his representatives to try to reach an agreement.
We Israelis must begin to realise this simple fact: the Arabs are not metaphysical creatures, but human beings, and human beings have it within themselves to change. So, we have to work, with caution and good sense for a lasting ceasefire.
At least we will know that we are not fighting for an impossible objective that can only result in blood and devastation that will weigh on the collective memories of our neighbours.

The writer is one of Israel%u2019s pre-eminent novelists.
