In the media(and in the miniscule minds of some Israel-hating libs) there exists this bizarre notion of %u201Cproportionality%u201D. We%u2019ve all seen this before: over a period of months or even years, thousands of small to medium rockets, all capable of killing a handful of people and doing medium damage, are fired into Israeli civilian areas. When Israel strikes back, they use F16 jets with thousand-pound bombs, and they use their massive tanks. Then, people start screaming that the Israeli response is not %u201Cproportionate%u201D. All I can say to this is: nonsense. This concept implies that the victim is constrained to using the same weapons as the attacker. It betrays a total lack of knowledge of the way warfare is, and always has been, conducted. The object of warfare is not to simply trade pinpricks, back and forth, infinitum. The object is to defeat your enemy and win. After Pearl Harbor, what should have been the US objective? Should we have simply replicated Japan%u2019s attack, and taken ships to Tokyo, killed 3000 people, wrecked 20 ships, and declared %u201COK, we%u2019re finished%u201D ? Or was it to defeat the enemy, totally and completely, so that they could not attack us again?

Hamas is possessed by the type of insane stubbornness that will always get you killed. Israel%u2019s message has been crystal clear: Just stop. Stop the rockets. Just stop it. Now. Stop it and we will not attack you. Stop it and we will not invade. But the stubbornness goes on and on. Hamas keeps firing rockets, and they keep getting bombed in returned. They''re like the little violent-yet-retarded maso*chist kid, back in high school that we all knew; you keep holding their arm behind their back, and you''re saying "say Uncle". And all they do is scream "No" and laugh. Sometimes I think Israel could nuke the whole Gaza, and after the mushroom cloud cleared, you''d still spot one lone Hamas maniac, on the edge of the nuked area, lighting off another rocket. Israel needs to learn: Hamas is not unlike like rats, mice, and roaches. If they leave even one behind, they will live to reproduce, and Israel will have to fight this war again some day.

Re: "There has never, ever been an example of ANY Israeli military action taken that was not a reaction to attacks from their enemies."

In 2006, Hezbullah captured 2 Israeli soldiers, which are of course legitimate military targets. In response, the Israelis murdered more than 1,000 Lebanese civilians, before they were forced to withdraw in disgrace and defeat.

This is just one recent case where the Israelis offer a criminal and disproportionate response to any imagined threat that they can conjure.

The brutal and criminal occupation of Palestine is an Israeli aggressive operation that the Israelis have waged against the people of Palestine for some 60 years, constantly squatting and stealing more and more land and resources as they go.

It would be far more difficult to site a single legitimate military response ever offered by the Zionist Israelis.

They seem to be bloodthirsty cowards by nature.

notblue , trolls like rusure ignore the facts because it''s horribly inconvenient for them to pay attention to them.
Should they take the time to face the truth, their whole "Palestinains-as-victims" house-of-cards collapses and their agenda is wrecked.

All of you Obama-supporting Israel haters, don''t forget who becomes President in 15 days, and what he said just 6 months ago(look it up yourself):

%u201CIf somebody was sending rockets into my house, where my two daughters sleep at night, I%u2019m going to do everything in my power to stop that,%u201D

For a group of people that have never invented anything notable, and never win Nobel Prizes, and have never shown expertise in any science or arts endeavor, the Muslim community certainly have become experts in ONE thing: flipping 180 degrees and going from being aggressors to being the %u201Cvictim%u201D very quickly when the purpose serves them. We see this again and again, whether in America or Pakistan or Afghanistan or Indonesia or Egypt or anywhere in the Middle East. Arabs/Muslims creating violence, and then squealing like a stuck pig when anyone dares to fight back. Good think that the majority of the world is starting to see thru this universal con game that the Muslims play with such frequency.

Rusure5, you forget that in Israel there is freedom of religion. There is well over a million non-Jews living and practicing there. Muslims and Christians all are happy there.
This is not the case in Muslim-dominated states. You will go to prison in Saudi Arabia simply for owning a bible.
So, that means my point is: you are an idiot.

Rusure5, you are lying.
In the current war only 15% of the casualties are civilians. Over 80% are Hamas militants. Stop the lies.

Re: "Israel is forced to fight with one hand tied behind its back -- tied by the so-called "international community" that puts pressure upon it..."

Zionist apologists made that same claim when the Israelis were targeting and killing the women and children, even UN civilian observers in 2006 in Lebanon.

We found out, as usual, that some 9 out of 10 of the Israeli inflicted deaths were civilians, mainly women and children.

It was funny to see the Israelis kicked out of Lebanon, in disgrace and defeat, despite their penchant for committing war crimes and atrocities.

This is but one reason why the Israeli Zionists are destined for the sewer of history. Even their most despicable criminal tactics are no longer effective.

There has never, ever been an example of ANY Israeli military action taken that was not a reaction to attacks from their enemies. Israel never has taken any preemptive action. Just look back on every war or incursion, you will note that every Israel incursion was a defensive reaction to Hezbollah, Hamas, Palestinians, Syrians, Egyptians, etc. When will Israel''s neighbors simply STOP attacking Israel? If they stop, Israel will also stop. It is as simple as that. But noooooo, the obsessive Jew-hatred that the Arabs (and the morons on this CBS blog) have has replaced any common sense they ever had. Amazing that people can be as stupid as Israel''s neighbors. Even a 4-yo child will stop grabbing bees once he gets stung a couple times.

There are those who think Israel cannot win a war, no matter how long they fight.
Those people are both wrong and ignorant of military warfare.
Winning wars is a matter of perseverance.
Israel will NEVER give up. Ever.

This is all Israel is asking:
"It is a simple choice. It is the most understandable and basic request: stop sending rockets, stop spending all of your energies making war or preparing for war. Leave us alone. That''s all. Just leave us alone."

Rusure5 says "..establishing a country based on a single religion is a catastrophe waiting to happen."

Pretty funny.
By your standards, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan and 1/2 the Arab countries are catastrophes.

Open mouth, insert foot, sir.

Re: "if there were no rockets shot into Israel, no arms buildup of military equipment, smuggled under several hundred tunnels that have been carefully constructed , then there would be nothing, absolutely nothing, not a gun, not a tank, not an airplane, not a paper airplane, from Israel going into Gaza."

The Israeli Zionists always seem to claim this, yet go right on killing civilians, polluting their land, and stealing from them, just as they always do.

The Palestinians and the other victims of Israeli Zionist aggression always have every right to defend themselves from the sub-human Zionist Israeli aggressors.

Israel is forced to fight with one hand tied behind its back -- tied by the so-called "international community" that puts pressure upon it, and even convinces the weak-minded in the USA government to join in, when the Israeli goal is actually quite simple and straightforward.
That goal is to stop the sending of thousands of rockets indiscriminately (or discriminately, for that matter) into Israel, into such major population centers as Ashkelon, and Ashdod, requiring nearly a million Israelis to have to worry all the time about the 15 seconds they have to find shelter against incoming rockets. It is purely a military matter: is Hamas going to be allowed to continue a gigantic, a truly monstrous arms buildup, with every kind of missile that the Iranians or others can supply them with, or is it not?
