This film provides some good insight on the intentional efforts by Israelis to kill civilians during conflicts, which could help explain why they are not allowing foreign journalists in the area. - Reply to this comment
- Civilian Fatalities
Most of those killed in the conflict have been civilians not involved in the fighting. Deliberately targeting civilians is strictly prohibited in international law in all circumstances: a rule which applies to all combatants whether from government armed forces or members of militia groups. Persons protected under occupation law are considered as civilians except for that period of time that they may be actively engaged in hostilities or are carrying arms.
Amongst Israelis, 69% of those killed were civilians and 31% members of the IDF. The number of Israeli civilians killed, from attacks by Palestinian armed groups or individuals, has declined steadily, peaking in 2002 at an average of 22 deaths per month, and dropping markedly to an average of one civilian per month in 2007. 6/
In contrast to Israeli figures, however, Palestinian civilian fatalities have remained high. Palestinian civilians, killed by Israeli security forces, peaked with an average of 35 deaths per month in 2002, and again in 2004. In 2007 they dropped slightly to an average of ten civilian deaths per month.
It is considerably more difficult to distinguish precisely who amongst those Palestinians killed were civilians. Since September 2000, of Palestinians killed by Israeli security forces, whose status was known, 59% were civilians and 41% were engaged in hostilities at the time of their death.

- To all the anti-muslims, you are the cause of all the sufferings of children and women, just because they have different faith. You should know when there is action, there is reaction. Action from the jews (both USA and Israel), and reaction from the Muslim. Why blame the reaction when the action started it all ...

- Israel left Gaza in 2005, giving Palestinians the chance to run their own lives. Despite this, more than 6300 rockets and mortars have been fired into Israel since then.
During the past year alone, more than 3000 rockets and mortars have been launched into Israel.
Since the end of a formal ceasefire (during which terror attacks continued) with Hamas came to an end on Dec. 19, more than 170 rockets and mortars have been fired at Israeli civilians including a barrage of some 80 missiles on Dec. 24 alone.
As US President-elect Obama stated during a visit to Sderot five months ago, "If somebody was sending rockets into my house where my two daughters sleep at night, I would do everything to stop that, and would expect Israel to do the same thing."
No other country in the world would have exercised the amount of restraint that Israel has shown for the past several years without responding.
An Israeli government spokesman says the country''s ground operation in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip could "end tomorrow %u2014 if we can be assured that the civilian population in the southern part of our country will no longer be on the receiving end of these terrible Hamas rockets." - Reply to this comment
- Deaths from the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict :
Of those killed in the conflict (since 2000), 4,228 have been Palestinians, 1,024 Israelis, and 63 foreign citizens. For every person killed, approximately seven were also injured.
As shown in Graph I,the total number of Israelis, both civilians and Israeli Defence Force (IDF) combatants, killed by Palestinian armed groups and individuals, is declining.
In contrast the total number of Palestinians, both civilians and combatants killed by the Israeli security forces or Israeli individuals, remains relatively high. In 2007, for example, for every one Israeli death there were 25 Palestinian deaths compared to 2002 when the ratio was 1:2.5.

- Either Hamas has very poor aim or their rockets from Iran are really cold war cheap. That many rockets with very few deaths maybe the U.S should not really fear Iran''s arsenal afterall?

- "We Would Do Exactly The Same Thing" -- New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg flew to Israel on Sunday for a daylong trip to express solidarity with Israelis threatened by Hamas rockets and to back the strikes against the militant group.

- Who has killed more Muslim women and children, Israel or Muslim extremists?

Neither - the bush/cheney & henchmen neocons are the prize-winners.
their "WMD" war in iraq unleashed unpresidented violence and are ultimately responsible for over 500''000 deaths, directly or indirectly.
it''s now a pert of our sad history. Shalom - Reply to this comment
- However, 11 Israeli civilians, including four children, have died since 2004, from the 2,696 Qassam rockets fired by Palestinian armed groups from the Gaza Strip into nearby Israeli towns, particularly Sderot."
11/2,696 = an incredibly poor weapon. These rockets are the equivalent of illegal fireworks in the state of West Virginia.
Wow, seems to me the appropriate response to such a deadly weapon would be a 1000kg precision guided weapon dropped on a hosiptal. - Reply to this comment
- We''''re not counting the Shia and Sunnis slaughtering each other by the thousands? I repeat the question: Who has killed more Muslim women and children, Israel or Muslim extremists?

- The ethnic cleansing efforts of the Israelis continue, despite their repeated failures.
The actions of the Israeli Zionists appear to be dictated by the Nazi that rules them from within their own heads.

- Re: "Who has killed more Muslim women and children..."
The Bush regime is responsible for the deaths of some one million mostly Muslims, Sunni and Shi''ite alike, as a result of is fraud-based war of aggression against the people of Iraq, (not to mention tens of thousands of dead and maimed Americans), so Bush and his cohorts are by far the most prolific killers of Muslims, including hundreds of thousands of women and children, in just few short years.
Bush bombs kill Afghan women and children, Pakistani women and children, and women and children elsewhere in the world, on a routine basis.
But this article is not about what Muslims are doing vs. non-Muslims. This article is about the latest splurge of Palestinian woman and children being killed by the Israeli aggressors.
I would prefer to remain focused on this topic. - Reply to this comment

The Israeli Zionists often attempt to attribute the use of Human Shields to their adversaries in a sad attempt to justify their own crimes and atrocities, and always without any substantial evidence or support for their claims.
One thing is for sure, though- that the Israelis have no standing or basis to ever criticize anyone else for relying on Human Shields as a tactic, since they so eagerly embrace this practice themselves.
They have long surrendered any standing in the matter.
The Israelis have truly become their own worst oppressors.- Reply to this comment
