Prime Minister Says Aerial Attack Was "First Of Several" Tactics As Offensive Reaches Turning Point
- Eliminate the State of Israel and terrorism is gone.
What a fatal and costly mistake by America on May 15, 1948. - Reply to this comment
- Finally...you said something cogent. I am an impartial observer. I admit I don''''t know the TRUTH. Our media is so biased and all...but why do Palestinians seem so radical and hateful. I don''''t get it.

It''s simple and saddening. Desperate people in desperate situations resorting to desperate measures. Think of it as a slave chopping off his own foot, in a desperate attempt to flee his captures.
Here''s a link for a BBc Documentary it''s a look at BOTH sides of the conflict. What I find amazing is it wasn''t that long ago when Israel was living under these conditions.

- Because the Israelis have an effective blockade on the Gaza Strip and have virtually stopped ALL humanitarian aid from reaching the people in Gaza. Another six months of living under those condition was not acceptable.
I think that soon the world will witness one of the all time greatest mass suicide/genocide. The most callous remark ever made was the Israeli Defense Minister''''s vow to "fight to the bitter end". That''''s code for "killing them all"

- "I am surprised no one (I haven''''t seen it here yet) has said anything about the 6 month ceasefire that the Egyptians brokered. It expired last week and Hamas just thought they''''d start up the same ole rocket launching as usual since the ceasefire was over. Why did it all have to start up again?"

- Israel should never have given up Gaza or the West Bank. Peace was the goal, but it hasn''t worked. Pain will fuel this violence forever. The more Israel gives the more Islamist fanatics want. I wish all of them could watch this through children''s eyes-they always provide the best view.

Actually as an American Jew, I am in no way embarrassed. I am not proud, no Jew is proud of war because it is terrible for everyone involved, but in times like these it is necessary. May the conflict end soon with the swift destruction of Hamas. - Reply to this comment
- "That, in turn, would all but destroy prospects of an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal."
That is the dumbest statement EVER written. - Reply to this comment

If they hadn''t of began the carnage, then this would not have happened.
Israel certainly couldn''t let this start up again. Once Obama is in the white house, Israel might be on their own anyway.
We are for sure coming closer to the UN entering Jerusalem to broker a peace in the mideast. We just need some big catastrophy for them to use as an excuse. We could actually see nuclear bombs used before Obama takes office. But I think the world will be surprised at who launches them and who the loser will be. - Reply to this comment

Great Britain was given the Palestinian Mandate by the League of Nations following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. The Balfore Declaration notwithstanding, the British did everything in their power to prevent the State of Israel. their policies were 100% pro-arab during the 20''s & 30''s leading to the full closure of Palestine to Jewish immigration on the eve of WWII. The British formed the Arab Legion which took the Old City of Jerusalem in 1948.
As for Jews in Israel - even the Romans weren''t able to drive them all away. Jews lived near Jerusalem and in Safed since the 79 AD revolution. Jews were accepted by the Muslims when all of Europe was throwing them out, the crusaders massacred many Jewish communities in Palestine.
If you are going to discuss Jewish history, or Palestine history, please get your facts straight and understand the motivations of the participants.
Zionism was the direct result of anti-Jewish action in France in the late 1890''s. Anti-Jewish doctrine was ingrained in both English and US foreign policy until the late 1950''s. Could US support be because Israel is the only democracy between the Atlantic and the Persian Gulf? - Reply to this comment
- 1 - Jews have lived in Israel for 3000 years
2 - Most of what became Israel was land bought by Jewish settlers during the early Zionist period.
3 - Jordan was created from the Palestine Mandate by Britain to give to one of the Saudi King''''s relatives, it should have been part of Palestine
4 - Israel accepted the partition of Palestine, the UN resolution of 1948, Only the Arab states did not.
5 - The 1948 war was begun by the Arab State with the objective of destroying Israel. Even after the end, Jordan prevented Jews from Jerusalem for 20 years in violation of the armistice.
6 - While Israel accepted thousands of Jews forced from Arab countries (Yeman, Egypt, etc) no Arab state accepted the Palestinians, many who left on their own with the understanding they would come back after the Jews were destroyed.
7 - in 1967 & 1973, Israel was forced into combat against 3 fronts. In 1967 Golda Meir tried to keep Jordan out to no avail.
8 - The Arabs have caused 90% of the current situation in the Mid-East. Once they accept peace, then Israel can be at peace with their neighbors.

- I read that the settlement building were destroyed AFTER the Jews pulled out.

I watched a show a while back where the Israeli army was forcing Israeli settlers to leave occupied lands. When the families had there stuff packed out ot the houses the Israeli soldiers would destroy the houses with explosives and fire. They even destroyed municipal buildings. This was done to appease the settlers so they would know the Arabs could not use it. - Reply to this comment
