If someone gets five years for firing a shoe, that''s beyond absurd. I don''t see that the fact that it was thrown at the shrub should justify five years. By all accounts, the journalist has been beaten to a pulp. Unlike Bush, he has paid a penalty for his actions. Bush is lucky not to be charged with war crimes for what he has done.

People need to decide what kind of world they want to live in. If you can end up tortured and beaten, and thrown in prison for five years for throwing a shoe, we all have reason to worry.

Well, the incident was probably a tad embarrassing for Bush, but not nearly as embarrassing as being arrested for High Crimes at the conclusion of the Jan 20th inauguration. This is really gonna make the news, I tell ya.

Common guys. Not only is this story bogus. The whole shoe throwing incident was bogus as well. It was nothing but stagecraft, to take attention away from the fact that Bush was signing a withdrawal agreement that included a timetable.

So instead of talking about how "no timetable Bush" somehow now believes a timetable is okay, we are busy talking about a staged shoe throwing incident.

Do you really think that our secret service is so lousy, that a guy could yell and run toward the president, throw a shoe, yell some more while he reaches down to take off his other shoe, then yell some more while he throws that shoe, and there still be 2 seconds that pass before the secret service even reaches Bush.

You''ve got to be kidding me.

Even if Bush was in the safety of the United States, the secret service would have been at Bush''s side before the first shoe reached the president. But here you have Bush in a hostile country and the secret service detail is so lousy that a guy has time to throw two shoes at Bush before they reach him. And it wasn''t even the Secret Service that initially brought down the guy.

Am I off base here?

If this is the type of protection the secret service provides now, then our country is in more trouble than we know.
