Secretary Of State Rice Demands "Concrete Steps" From Islamabad In Mumbai Attack Probe

I see your point. But you have to consider the areas that are not under control of the government, mainly the northwest border regions. These regions are pretty much autonomous governed by local tribal leaders. Where do you suppose their major source of financial security comes from?
Also, you have to consider Pakistan is run by two distinct entities. You have the government and the ISI/military, both with competing interests vying for their share of power.
The issue I have with Pakistan is they are being, at most, complicit by allowing many of these terrorists safe haven with zero repercussions and, at least, less than helpful by the outright denial that anyone from their country was involved in the attacks in Mumbai.
If these attacs happened in the U.S., we''d already be on the ground in Pakistan. - Reply to this comment

Most people are in favor of eliminating Al Queda, this administration seemed to forget that.

Tariq Ali, a British-Pakistani historian, criticized Obama%u2019s suggested bombing missions in Pakistan against the wishes of the Pakistani government. Tariq Ali said that: %u201CWere the United States to start bombing raids inside Pakistan, there would be a massive increase of support for the jihadi fundamentalist groups in that country, and it would weaken not just secular political groups, it would weaken even the moderate religious parties who are not associated with that.%u201D - Reply to this comment
- For the first time in recent history, we should just sit back and let events unfold WITHOUT our participation.

No materiel support? No diplomacy? Do we just forego any type of leadership role whatsoever? - Reply to this comment

- It''''s easy to blame borrowers for getting sucked in, and there''''s enough responsibility to go around. However, no one ever told the layperson borrowers that they wouldn''''t be able to afford the rate by how much the lender intended to jack it up-they don''''t ever talk about that, except in the finest of fine print "disclosure".

Hmmm, I was going to comment but decided to try to bring the discussion back to the relevancy of the story.
These extremists are, IMO, beginning to solidify their own doom. The more targets they unleash their terrorist plots on, the more they make pariahs of themselves. We''re in a precarious position because both India and Pakistan are allies of ours. One question you have to ask is, why don''t we support India attacking Pakistan and not back them in this enterprise?
After all, didn''t we do the same? - Reply to this comment
- The order Clinton signed did not force banks to lend to people of lower income levels but to ease up on the credit restritions and down payments requirements to purchase homes.

You are an idiot. Who do you think that action was aimed at? You cannot deny that banks and lending institutions were pressured to make loans that they would not have made under the previous rules. But in the end it is those who borrowed the money that are to blame if they can''''t make the payments. Posted by redbds"
The bottom line is that most banks and mortgage companies that wrote bad loans were loaning other peoples money. That is the problem in a nutshell. Give a sub-prime mortgage company a line of credit for $4 billion, then allow them to secuirtize and pay off the line with Wall Street''s help, and they effectively have an unlimited supply of money to lend. That is what they did, and then gave the risk to investors alla round the world. This was a recipe for making a lot of money short term, and a lot of bad loans and foreclosures that imploded.
These banks and others knew *** well that these loans would fail and they had an exit strategy all along. The exit strategy was to make as much money as they could and then bail, leaving the investors and the customers stuck in a big and terrible way.
Prisons should be full of these executives. But my guess is they will get away clean and very, very rich. - Reply to this comment

- Here again, the Bush administration, with it''s cowboy hat on, can talk the talk but can''t even crawl, much less walk the walk.
Condie: these people are TERRORISTS, not militants.
Bush''s failed policies has poured several billion dollars into Pakistan. Instead of removing terrorists from within the Pakistan boarders, the TERRORISTS have gotten stronger, better equipped and trained.
Another "mission accomplished" for George, What me worry, Bush. - Reply to this comment

- It turns out that from 1991 to 1998, Fannie Mae''''s Assistant Director of Product Initiatives was one Herb Moses. He was also Barney Frank''''s partner at the time.
I always wondered what Barney''''s mouth was full of when he spoke.

- The solution will be here in January, Obama has said he will invade Pakistan, and he is going to talk to the Taliban without any precondiitons.
On another note the law suite about Obama''s birth certificate lock up in a vault in Hawai is going to the Supreme Court for review, hopefully they will take it which will make them produce the original birth certificate for an independent forensic examination. - Reply to this comment
- My point is, there seems to be a marked increase in the number of female suicide bombers. Why a woman would strap herself to a bomb---or get into one---is beyond me.

Have you seen how the Muslims treat their women? maybe the reason.. Death is better hen being treated like a dog..
Or maybe they think Allah will give them 72 male virgins? That do not smell of goat.
Or maybe they want to just be a martyr.. - Reply to this comment

- Organizations that target hotels and restaurants and murder civilians in train stations are not militants. They are TERRORISTS. Pakistan has done little to non since 9/11 to eradicate the TERRORIST organizations within its boarders.
Iran is continuing its proxy war by funding some of these terrorist organizations. Pakistan knows what is happening and continues to ignore the problems within its boarders. Ignorance is not an excuse. - Reply to this comment

- You seem to know a great deal about these guys, so here''''s a question: When then men do the suicide bombings, they supposedly go to Heaven and get the 72 virgins (it used to be 24, then it went to 48, now it''''s 72.) What''''s in it for the women?

Good question.. I dont know.. What''s your point?
Because nothings in it for women, ergo they''re not religiously motivated?
Theyre crazy either way..
I wish they didnt exist, but they do, and its beyond debate that they are religiously motivated..
Im not sure what your point is, but I think that - Reply to this comment
- It''s time to expell the Islamists out of this country. This religion is determined to take over this country. Please don''t tell me that the moderates don''t think that way, they aren''t doing anything to condem it. You may think I''m paranoid but I''m not. I''m just not stupid, I know what''s building. If you don''t do anything now your children will pay dearly. i wouldn''t have anything against this religion if their doctrine wasn''t to destroy anyone that doesn''t believe in their ways and if the moderates would condem it. They leave us no choice but to oppose them in any way that protects are people.
