Comments on: Russia's Medvedev's Tough Guy Act
CBS News: New Russian President Seems To Be Reviving Adversarial Relations With The U.S.
- "America is experiencing her problems now..."
- I think it''s a little more serious than that, I think America is getting destroyed from within and is headed for a long and deep economical and political depression. And by the time it comes out of it, it''s gonna be too late to regain domination. That''s what you get when the country is run by a bunch of crooks! But Russia isn''t interested in world domination anymore, it''s satisfied with its regional influence.
"There are similarities already, Medvedev invaded Georgia the same way Bush invaded Iraq, neither made sense!"
-start asking yourself WHY Medvedev invaded Georgia, and try to look for answers instead of comparisons. - Reply to this comment
- FROM THE ARTICLE ABOVE:
"Putin had a reputation for being tough, but it was under Medvedev that Russia used excessive force against Georgia, occupying part of its territory and crushing its military."
Says who? You see, this is what gets me so pissed about the American press: They''ll decide what is "excessive" or not, an "extremist" or a "moderate", a "terrorist" or a "freedom fighter".
What''s amazing is how Americans will then gulp down these labels and act as if they were given to them by God himself.
What makes it even more pathetic is when an argument is made about how the millions of people killed during the Vietnam and Iraq war was a necessity to keep the freedoms in the US.
And for some reason none of it is considered
"excessive" in this country. It''s like it was all pre-destined. But if Russia does it, oh, no, no, no, they were not supposed to do that. How could they? - Reply to this comment
- The Russians are self-important incompetents, with a chip on their shoulder since Ronald Reagan ran them into the ground. Perhaps this will wake-up the spineless Europeans in the EU that haven''t taken the Poles, Czechs, and others'' warnings seriously... we KNOW the Russians after 40 yrs of their brutal occupation and communist slavery.
America is experiencing her problems now, but the Russians have NO alternative model to offer the world with thier rapidly declining population, declining oil and gas production, Kremlin-crony-capitalism, pathetic technology and manufacturing sectors, shocking alcoholism rates, and now-aborted attempts at true political and social freedom. All they can say to other disfunctional societies is "hey, come hate America with us"
Selfish and insecure Russia is nothing more than a Saudi Arabia with trees... and $50 oil spells the end of their arrogant fantasies. Their military is a joke, same low quality, high quantity, life-is-cheap strategy as Stalin, Breznev, etc. The USA outspends them in military areas 10-to-1 already... and they have little conventionally to threaten anyone with... but aren''t ashamed to point out their massive nuclear arsenal, as would Kim Jong Il if he had it.
The only thing they''ve got going for them is a weak US President Obama... and their recent behavior shows they smell a Jimmy Carter II.

- "It gives Russia a perfect pretext to deploy its missiles in Kaliningrad, so that we could blanket Europe if need be," said one Russian.

yeeeaahhh... and blood of poor victims trickled from his ghastly mouth...
I think it''s not news, it''s either unsound imagination or woodoo tricks...
We almost everybody of us like English or English-American literature or movies in Russia, so it''s time you started to respect us too and start learning Russian or red our books, why not! We are becoming normal people again, the mad period of our history is gone and we want to get along well with the rest. Don''t let them erouse superfluous fears! Do us a favor to deem us just people and not vampires. I read your books (Poe, Salinger, Kerwood and so on) and then call in on the cbs and find what I find there as a rule - fearmongering. We will be really democratic I am sure. I assure you that what I read usually in US media is not true about Russian people. Fears should not be superfluous as fearmongers want them be so. - Reply to this comment

I don''t think you are aware that Russia (unlike USA) is capable of withstanding a nuclear holocaust. Russians spent the last 60 years preparing for it. They anticipate the nuclear strike from America, so even if America strikes first, Russia will absorb the nuclear blow (believe it or not) and then it will strike back with an overwhelming force. That''s why Russia will never allow the missle shield in Poland.
However, Russians have no problem with American people, it is the corrupt US government that they are against. And I think even Americans themselves are sick of it since they elected Obama... - Reply to this comment

- The chance of Russia attacking the US or vice-versa is about as close to zero as you can possibly get.

This Russian/Venezuela display is clearly designed to make the U.S. and Israel pause and think twice before they sneak attack Iran at the end of the Bush/Olmert Presidencies in the traditional parting shots context. If the U.S. and Israel are planning to sneak attack Iran, Peter the Great better be sunk first along with its nuclear armed escort Sub, they both are too close to the U.S. - Reply to this comment

- Why do we even waste time reporting on Russia. They are clearly a desperate country. If their leaders would just shut their mouths and play ball with the rest of the world they might have a chance to prosper, but the pride of their KGB/Russian Mob leadership gets in the way. They are now up their with the Irans and North Koreas of the world....all bark no bite.
All foreign investment is pulling out of the country because of Putin''s actions. Their economy is based on oil which will be severely cut into in the next decade by greener energies. Their military is decrepit. All their satellites are joining NATO. Their population is declining. They will soon be in border conflicts with China for land. Their closet allies are Iran and Venezuela. And they are re instituting dictatorial rule in the ever expanding information age (google cell phones in closed societies).
They even have analyst saying the US will break up into 6 parts, some ruled by China, Mexico and Canada. Looks like someone has been under communist rule too long.
Russia needs to just go away. Or talk to Libya to get on the path of enlightenment. - Reply to this comment
