- All the more reason for the United States to lead the world now in Space-Based Solar Power. SBSP, invented in the US in 1968, has been favorably reviewed by NASA, DOE, and DOD. It can align missions in these agencies, as well as Presidential policies in space, energy, environment, commerce, and education. A 1-km band in geo orbit receives as much energy from the sun as all the known remaining oil reserves on Earth, according to the National Security Space Office of the Pentagon''s report: "Space-Based Solar Power As an Opportunity for Strategic Security". We could be well on our way to energy independence and security by accessing this energy. SBSP does not contribute waste heat or CO2 to the atmosphere. A sunsat can deliver 5 gigawatts, about the same as 10 fission plants. With the electrification of transportation it can run fleet vehicles as well. NSSO identifies a need to deliver reliable, steerable energy to the warfighter in the field. Oil convoys are targeted, and we lose alot in blood and treasure each year to this. DOD can be an anchor customer for a civilian SBSP industry. DOD can pay over-the-market prices for energy. This aids the business case. Other helpful developments are improvements in photovoltaics, telerobotics, and proliferating work in cheap RLVs. In situ lunar resource utlization can reduce construction costs by 97%. SBSP will be the industrial reason to settle space. The solar plane is our extended home, and there are resources available there if we work smart.

Well, this is very...good point!!!
