There should be no religious test in law. If a French Catholic asked for annulment on these same grounds he would have been denied. That the man was Muslim should not be a factor in deciding the case. Changing the law to meet religious requirements is an insidious way to undermine the legal system. Once the law is bent then any man can argue that the law should be bent for him for any offense.

In matter of virginity, you may well be sarcastic, but it is a very important quality of the bride in Judaism, Christianity and Islam I guess. If he wanted the law to be different, he should have gotten married in a place where the law reflected his values, like anyone else.
Maybe he could have gotten married in some dark corner of the muslim world, where instead of an annulment, she would quite literally have been dragged screaming to the town square, where her loving fellow muslims would have been deeply happy to stone her to death with sharp rocks, to help them express "God''s love", or "justice" or whatever else religious lunatics all over the world call their murderous barbarism.

lets not question a culture based on religion and what requirements are laid down for marriage. I have never met a virgin but if this was an accepted requirement for marriage who are we to question it? This would be fraud if this was the basis for marriage
