There is not a law that demands the President-elect place his hand on anything when being sworn in.
According to %u201CThe Oath of Office%u201D (http://usinfo.gov/special/inauguration_
oath.html), The president-elect traditionally takes the oath with his hand on the Bible. However, this is not a requirement %u2013 Theodore Roosevelt took the oath in 1901 without swearing on a Bible.%u201D

Not only are you correct on this point, the CONSTITUTION doesn''t even REQUIRE an OATH. It is an OATH or AFFIRMATION. "Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will toe the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." The reason for this was obvious since they had required that "No Religious Test" be placed upon our officials, to require an Oath would be in direct conflict!

The Lord wins in the end, so enjoy your rebellion against Him on this earth while you can. Nobody is guaranteed the next day on this earth. Nobody. So if your heart isn''''t right with the Lord, you''''ll be making the biggest mistake of your life.

You know a Red Eyed Freak dressed in a Hood and Sheet said this EXACT SAME thing to me in Selma during the 60''s. It couldn''t have been you he was far to old at the time (although you may be related) but I ask you... Where do YOU think that "Born Again" Hypocrite is right now! My bet is he IS NOT in a better place. Your thoughts?

According to Matthew 5:33-38, Jesus is quoted as saying "Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to your Lord. But I tell you,Do not swear at all, either by heaven, for it is Gods throne, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. Simply let your "Yes" be "Yes", and your "No" be "No", anything beyond this comes from the evil one."

So it is evident that swearing an oath on the Bible is actually disobeying the teaching of "Jesus", in whom these miscreant hypocrites masquerading as "Christians" claim to believe.

"NOT everyone is happy that obama won. I don''''t think he will do a good job as president. He will probably be WORSE than both of the Bush''''s. The world had better watch out and watch what they say about him. He is NOT a leader." Posted by Challenge17

Point by point,

Not everyone is happy than when any president wins.

His job will only be as good as the bills that come to him to sign, or veto.

If you are one of the few who profited during Bush''s trickle down, corrupt, war mongering, then understandably you are not going to like the future, but this is of no concern to those of us who voted for Mr. Obama.

The rest of the world is celebrating, except those who profited from Bush.

He is the elected leader now, that is all that matters.

Yes! Yes! You are exactly right. Bring out that recently trampled and tattered document and let''s polish it up and get to know it better.
Congratulations President-elect Obama.
All the world breathes a sigh of relief to see this great country headed in a new direction, at last!

EAT YOUR HEARTS OUT Christian Taliban (and your imams including Dr. James Dobson), Muslim Taliban (and your imams), homophobes, racists, and elitist republicans in general. Even manipulating the vote-counting machines was not enough to deny real Americans their voice. YOUR OX HAS DONE BEEN GORED!!

Congratulations Mr. President-elect Obama. Congratulations America, congratulations world.

My humble thanks to the people of the US who repudiated Bush, perpetual war, intolerance, trickle down, corporate corruption, fear mongering, and all of the other GOP tactics that have done such harm to the world.

My duty of keeping the viewpoint of opposition to the racist neocon agenda alive on these threads is almost finished, the President-elect is all the proof we need that all of America is not as ignorant as many who are still posting lies and insults at President-elect Obama.

The only thing that remains is to keep up my call for Bush and his associates to be brought to justice to answer charges of treason, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, and I humbly ask all who were with me in the trenches of these threads to join me in this final battle.

We took our country back, now let us take our money back.

mr.socialism sux-
open your eyes. the antichrist arrived a long *** time ago. obama is a new hope for my generation to bury the wrongs the bush administration has committed. and u know nothing of socialism- if you did, you wouldn''t fear the rise of it- the kind of socialism republicans try to scare you with has no way of existing in the modern world. i look forward to the new administration, as do many.

The anti-christ was in office the last eight years, and will soon be bounced out. If there is any justice in the world,he will try for war crimes........

When the "world" is celebrating an Obama victory, it''''s creepy. Perhaps the anti-Christ has arrived.

It never ceases to amaze me how easily a thread like this is silenced by a single, profound statement.

Thanks...

Now the question is which book will he swear in on when he takes the oath of office in January, the Bible, or the Quran?

How great to see a SECULAR victory in America.

Regardless of the appeals to fear and hate, and ignorance from the far right,
regardless of their pleadings to remove a woman''s control over her own body,
and the push to impose religion on our institutions -

We, the American People have spoken in a clear, firm voice.

NO MORE of the failed right-wing policies.

RESPECT for the Constitution, that great gift of the Founding Fathers.

AN END to cowboy diplomacy and torture.

RESPECT for all religions, including Islam, by enforcing the Constitutional separation of Church and State.

It is time for us to take responsibility for our actions and end faith-based governing.

Wise decisions and good policy will serve our great nation now, and in future generations.

Sure we voted, and this was a good thing ... but this verse tells of who is really in charge around here: Daniel 2:20 & 21: %u201CPraise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and disposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.%u201D (NIV)

Praise Him. Blessings to all in America ... as we heal our differences, unite our country, and get behind our new President. God bless everyone, all across the world ... no exceptions
