Frederick the Great of Prussia once counseled his war cabinet: "Diplomacy without arms is like music without instruments." To those who counseled caution in the face of aggression, he responded that nations that were not prepared to protect their strategic interests would, in a short order, have no strategic interests to protect. The intervening three centuries have not diminished the truth of the principle.

Russia knows they can slap down US lap dogs with impunity. Putin must be LHAO. The USA is a spent force that no longer need be reckoned with on the global front.

This is just another case where the United Nations and all of their BS means nothing in the scope of the world situation today. What a total waste of money. We don''t need the UN. We already help the poor and starving. The UN won''t stand up to Russia, China, North Korea or any radical government. Why should anyone be surprised by what Russia is doing.....realistacally, who is going to stop them? NO ONE. Why can''t Georgia be a multi-ethnic country without, the Russians cutting out a piece just for those who are Russians. Next they will want a piece for the French, the Checks and so on. Georgia is a sovern country leave them the hell alone and let them decide how they want to live and govern.

So ... Bush McCain decide to put a missile defense system in Poland then ratchet up the rhetoric on Russia when it retaliates against Georgia.

The Russian response ... Iran wants nuclear weapons ... Russia will give Iran nuclear weapons. And there''''s not a fricking thing United States or Nato can do about it.

Yet another good move by BushMcCain

Russia are probably too busy laughing their socks off at Bush and Rice to withdraw their troops. Bush must be spitting purple raspberries to see the billions he spent on new Georgian military bases completely trashed to a pile of loose rubble. That plus the additional billions spent on providing Georgia with latest weaponry to stock in them which is now in Russian hands. Rice is also having a tough time trying to reduce the humiliation, but her empty rhetoric is just making them laugh more. Come to think of it, it''''s making me laugh my socks off too.

Correct. This is the terrible price of the last 8 years, and one that is ultimately attributable to the US electorate. The integrity of the once greatest and most respected nations on earth is now, by recent global polls, somewhere down the list past Cyprus.

NATO and Rice need to be careful today as they need permission to cross Russian territory to access Afghanistan. With 10 French NATO soldiers killed there today I suspect the hypocritical US rhetoric now needs to be toned down.
