- Its ''put up or shut up'' time for the neocons, and their ''neo-American-empire'' turns out to be the same house of cards that their ''neo-American-economy'' turned out to be.
So be it. America, powerful though she may be, needs to pick the fights that MATTER to her. At the end of the day (despite neocon ramblings to the contrary) places like ''Iraq'' and ''Georgia'' (or, for that matter, ''Poland'' and ''Taiwan'') don''t matter to America. Thats because, stronger than any ''empire'', is the will of self-determination among ordinary people. Thats the will that causes the locals to fight for their OWN backyard. Lacking that, no amount of American treasury, or American ''cannon-fodder'', can change the equation.
Truth? EVERYONE (including the Russian and Chinese leadership) wants to be what America represents.
Even (in these difficult times) a substantial fraction of AMERICA...
Reject empire. Embrace individuality and individual FREEDOM!!! And part of that freedom is the freedom of a community that can pay for health care, child care, and a living wage for her citizens. - Reply to this comment
- When all is said and done, "poo-poo will occur". Hindsight is a lost vision when bullets whiz and bombs drop. ALL governments have failed at various times throughout history...sometimes at seriously important times. Like when Chamberlain cheered that peace was at hand after he talked to Hitler, like when Bush Sr. left Saddam above ground and breathing after the allies took back Kuwait. This current mess goes waayy back to WWI when the Bolsheviks got control of Russia, and Germany suffered a defeat that Hitler would try to avenge. Armchair quarterbacking and Bush-whacking, as well as Obama doubting, will not help nor hinder whatever happens now. The Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe, especially the Balkans, were all "re-arranged" and colonialized by western Europe after WWI, and then again after WWII. America had little to do with it. Colonialism has always left a bad taste in American mouths due to our own beginnings. Might as well just sit back and watch, ain''t nothin'' you all can do about anything anyway.
