The summary of your position on this is, as usual correct and elegant in content. However I wish to input some grist for the mill, because of my location on a truly international crossroads city, I am exposed to Russians of many stripe, from rich businessmen to their not so rich support, to the "models" that come here.

A favorite saying of Russians is "Under socialism, we were slaves of the state, but we were lazy, so the stores had no bread. Under capitalism, we are slaves of corporations, working harder than ever before, so now the stores are full of bread that we cannot afford".

I do not believe the goal is world domination now, in these modern times no country wants to add more mouths to feed, it is enough simply to control one''s own strategic resources. Bush took Iraq, so Russia takes the Caspian. It is a perverse, illegal chess game, but "most Russians" as you put it, do not want world domination, they want the end of corruption, and they want assurances that they won''t be captive to rogue states controlling their energy supply.

Many want a return to what little security they knew under socialism, as it is better than what they have now, but my impression is that they have no wish to "turn the world communist", in fact those successful Russian business men resemble more and more the corrupt neocons in the US, and since they control so much money, will prevent any slide back towards socialism.

The Plan.
1. US (via NATO) encourages Georgia to bomb South Ossetia under the cover of the opening Olympics ceremony.
2. Plan is that few will notice the initial attack, but EVERYONE will notice the Russian response, and rally behind the US condemnation.
3. Much of the world, including the United Nations, DID notice the initial bombing of the South Ossetians, but much of the west falls behind the US anyway, helped by a massive attempt at media diversion.

US reason? Russia must be prevented from joining the EU at ALL costs.

ask HUSSEIN to sing the call to prayer and then the american national anthem,,,

HUSSEIN SAYS MUSLIM CALL TO PRAYER IS ONE OF THE PRETTIEST SOUNDS ON EARTH AT SUNSET

%u201CI was a little Jakarta street kid,%u201D Obama said in a wide-ranging interview in his office (excerpts are on Nicholas D. Kristofs''s blog, http://www.nytimes.com/ontheground). He once got in trouble for making faces during Koran study classes in his elementary school, but a president is less likely to stereotype Muslims as fanatics %u2014 and more likely to be aware of their nationalism %u2014 if he once studied the Koran with them.

Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it%u2019ll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as %u201Cone of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.%u201D

Russia rolls over Georgia, Hillary Clinton does the same to Barack Obama. Now we know who''''s boss.
Obama blinked and stands guilty of appeasing Clinton by agreeing to a roll call vote for her nomination.

WHY RUSSIA WENT INTO GEORGIA,,, to kill muslims,,,

Tensions between Georgia and Russia were strained over the Pankisi Gorge, a lawless region of Georgia that Russia said had become a haven for Islamic militants and Chechen rebels.

Military-industrial complex may be giddy with excitment. Opportunities afforded by war on terror and Iraq is peanuts compared to this war and also longer term. Bush and company is already laying the foundation with tough talk. The hawks in Russia may also be looking forward to a bright future.

It''s always "GWB went AWOL", but never "WJC was over in England preaching against America". This constant Mexican standoff cr^pola. Please, come up with some new issues. Every government has made, and will again make, mistakes for personal or national reasons and gains. Everyone on "high horses" usually trip and fall....

It''s such two faced logic all the time.

Lets straighten it out into one face, for just a sec.

If you really believe its in Russia''s best interest to have stable neighbors, and there is no harm in NATO being there...then you just agreed to pay for all that stability, and to pay your own money to defend these countries...and you just gave the biggest gift to Russia they could ever hope for.

Ukraine is negotiating for how much they will RECEIVE in payments for allowing bases on their country.

Now, Russia pays, soon, NATO will pay.

The U.S. I hope has unlimited funds, because otherwise, this is going to get expensive.

Funny how the US and corporate western media have manipulated all this. Before Russia entered Ossetia it proposed a cease-fire at the UN Security Council. What were the countries that blocked it?

Condie is PO''ed that this trip to Georgia interrupted her vacation and shopping time. How dare the Russians invade a sovereign nation! Maybe they got the idea from what George did in Iraq, ya think? Copy cats!
