- Re: Vietnam, when Kennedy got elected, he made a decision to support the south Vietnamese military with US troops. Prior to that the US had been advising the French and S. Vietnamese. Kennedy ordered the Signal Corps to Vietnam from Fort Huachuca and went from there. Kennedy had good intentions, but made a mess just like he did with Bay of Pigs and Missile Crisis, where he appeased the Russians by agreeing to remove our strategic missiles from Turkey. This is what happens when Americans elect celebrity Presidents with thin resumes.

The Bay of Pigs was compromised before Kennedy was even president.
"The Bay of Pigs operation, during its planning stages, was the most closely held secret of the Eisenhower and Kennedy administrations, and most of us who usually shared the President''s confidential problems were not included in the Bay of Pigs discussion meetings. The planning had been done over the previous year by CIA people under the direction of Allen W. Dulles, the highly respected head of that agency, and his deputy, Richard Bissell, with the knowledge and approval of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The President agreed, for security reasons, that the fewer new faces in the government brought into the discussions, the better kept the secret would be. He did not mention the project to me until he had given it his final approval, only a few days before the air strike and the landings." - Reply to this comment
- It should be mentioned that the post-Communist Georgians have imperial designs on South Ossetia and Abkhazia. What a stark contradiction that the United States, which championed Kosovo%u2019s independence from Serbia, now is ignoring Georgia%u2019s invasion of its ethnically rebellious provinces.

- In his interview today Saakashvili said: "This people (Russians) are an insult to humanity." Like a typical racist, he didn''t blame Putin, the Russian army or government -- no! ALL Russians for him are liars, criminals, killers! How Bush an others can support this person. Shame on them.

- You watch too many TV dramas about the missile crisis. The Soviets knew Kennedy was a weak president, that''s why the Soviets managed to actually install missiles in Cuba. Only by a fluke did we discover that. So much for Kennedy protecting us. The fact is Kennedy ended up appeasing Kruschev. We had no reason to remove our missiles from Turkey. He dealt from a weak position. By your reasoning, the US should agree to give up our nuclear capacity if Iran agrees to give up theirs. That would be appeasement not strength.

- Sure, peace is good for the majority of Americans, but there is a select few that benefit from War and its debt. Bush has all his money in T-Bills. He is making money off of our debt and the more we incur the more he makes.

So Bush is buying the lowest yielding investment used to finance debt that keeps increasing because of the war and huge increases in social spending further lowering the value of the dollar which is paid at the maturity of this investment. I''m pretty sure you don''t know what you are talking about. - Reply to this comment

From WAR.com
In May 1961, President Kennedy sent 500 more American advisers to Vietnam, bringing American forces to 1,400 men. The military wanted more men saying that with 13,000 troops they could wipe out the Vietcong. Kennedy didn''t know what to do; as men he trusted argued both sides of the issue.
Slowly, over the next year, Kennedy escalated American involvement in the war.
By the end of 1962, the military had received what they wanted. The US had 11,300 officers operating in South Vietnam. Kennedy was told in early 1963 that the war was fast being won and that he could begin withdrawing troops by the end of the year. The war was far from being won.
The only thing certain about Kennedy''s role in Vietnam before he died was that he had escalated America''s military, political, and maybe psychological commitment to Vietnam. - Reply to this comment

- Although he is named after Vladimir Lenin, he behaves a lot more like Joseph Stalin who invaded the small nation of Finland in 1939-1940, in what is known as the Winter War. Stalin''s army waged a war of aggression against Finland, a small, courageous nation fighting for its freedom.

Sorry, but the statistics don''t back this up regardless of who told you. You might have missed the lecture in economics class but the greatest GDP growth occurs during periods of peace since manufactured consumable goods are in more supply and buyers are not diverting cash to war bonds. Look up the statistics yourself if you don''t believe me. - Reply to this comment
