France Brokers Deal Between Warring Nations
- I couldn''t bother reading through the mental asylum that the CBS news comment section is. But I wanted to point out that this deal is the exact same deal that Russia floated at the United Nations last Friday morning, only to have the US and UK block it because it called for both sides (Ossetia and Georgia) to renounce force. So the Ruskies invaded, and now the deal looks good to everyone).

- ourtomorrows %u2013 I do business in Russia and have been to the Baltic Republics. I study widely and have received in-depth consular briefings in those consular offices and embassies. Love travelling and visiting in that part of the world. Plan to be in Poland in two weeks time. From your post, you don%u2019t fully comprehend the situation, but more than most. Be careful about assuming that just because you don%u2019t fully understand something, nobody else must understand it.

- I am reassured to see so many thinking comments here, largely outnumbering the brainwashed pro-Bush ones. Of all there is inside and beyond america today, no-one can brush off the criticism as simply ''lib-thinking'', or ''conspiracy theory'', or even ''unpatriotic''. Your leaders of the last few years have been setting in motion a strategy that will change the world forever, largely to suit themselves and their people. God really does know what disasters will unfold from that, some of which you are seeing already. Goodnight, and may your god go with you.

- Is this the same france that would not back our little Iraq venture at the un. We even went so far as to change the name of our French fries, how child like. Whoever said Russia or China might come to the US needs to remember they hold the mortage on our country. They will simply foreclose.
Bin laden where are you? We give up, you have broken the US. How''s your money supply? OK good we might need to borrow from you next! Who is the real winner here? - Reply to this comment
- Tapsettle, sadly you may be right. Spheres of world power are changing. Sarkozy and Medvedev could team up and solve the Iranian problem. Little Bushie could sit in the corner and cry and hold his breath until his face turns red, then stamp his feet and cry some more. As for China, they would be all for peace with Iran, because that is were they buy their oil. They wouldn%u2019t have much time for Bushie as he spent most his time at the Olympics insulting his gracious host, something about human rights, something that Bush knows nothing about unless it is waterboarding.

- Of course Bush''''s statements had an impact, was it an accident that less then 24 hours after the President issued his statement from the Rose Garden the fighting ended ..... Posted by ourtomorrows
Hahahaha !!! You could be right, they could have been laughing so much they couldnt concentrate on the job at hand !! Get real, together with the proverbial finger Putin said of Bush demands ''urhm ... let me think for a moment ...how you say ... fark you''. Russia now also dictate the ceasefire agreement, which will effectively give S. Ossetia a referendum (wonder what they will vote for ... duh) and Bush can do naff all. - Reply to this comment
- What? No Republican posters here to defend Georgia''''s American like invasion of South Osentia? No defending the American Backed country''''''''s attack on its neighbor?
Posted by langx
First of all, South Ossetia is not Georgia''s neighbor, it is PART OF GEORGIA legally. It is a semi-autonomous province but it is legally a part of Georgia. The Georgian government, perhaps mistakenly, opted to try and retake their own province. Yes, their own province. South Ossetia is not a separate nation, it is part of Georgia. - Reply to this comment
- Sarkozy did a splendid job arranging the peace. The announcement and videos came out hours before it was discovered by the US media. Nobody paid any attention to President Bush on this one.

I honestly do not believe some of the posts on here and this one takes the cake. You know why Sarkozy negotiated the peace, because France and Russia have a centuries old history of alliance and Sarkozy is currently President of the EU. Hello!!!!!!!!!!! Of course Bush''s statements had an impact, was it an accident that less then 24 hours after the President issued his statement from the Rose Garden the fighting ended. Sarkozy also opposed fast tracking Georgia into NATO, hmm, perhaps we are a bit guilty.
And the pat on the back for the Russians, are you people insane! This was an unprovoked attack on George. S Ossetia is PART of Georgia, the majority of people in it are Ossetians (ethnically of Persian origin) who the Russians gave Russian passports to arguably as a way to draw them into the Russian sphere. Wake up you fools! This is the first salvo in a broad plan of Russian expansion and the only way it will be stopped is continued action and pressure by the US. Europe won''t act forcefully enough and if Russia moves against another state anytime soon, you will see the Baltic republics and Poland acting, they are not going to tolerate a return to the days of Russian domination. Wake up, read some history, try to understand the realities of the world! - Reply to this comment

- I hope I''m around to see the day when all americans are speaking Russian ... or Chinese ... depending on how they divide the spoils. You should be so proud of your leaders, who have set these nation-changing events in motion.

It was like keep him out of the way and let the grown ups deal with it. Sarkozy did mention McCain. He said that McCains statements were not helping and were best disregarded. Gone are the days when US Presidents were respected statesmen. President Medvedev came out looking impressive and sleaze bag Saakashvili looks worried. He keeps looking over his shoulder like his own people might finish him off. It is no wonder after he committed heinous war crimes in their names and got thousands of his own people killed for no reason. Just playing his little games.

- Many of the posters here are probably dusting off their pictures of Stalin. ''Uncle Joe'' knew how to deal with people who wanted freedom and democracy. Putin can take his place as a hero of the left.

- Well, as John McCain says on behalf of America, %u201CWe%u2019re all Georgians, now%u201D. And I guess McCain is right - like Georgia, we went off half-cocked (into an invasion) without regard to the consequences. And also, like Georgia we got some really bad military advice from Israel.

- "The revenge for Russia and Mr Putin personally is sweet. At a stroke, it is payback time for the Russians, who were ignored by the US and its allies before the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and Kosovo independence earlier this year" So True !

- The WMD that Saddam used was a Oil by product that comes from sour gas, it is in every gas well in the world, but in some wells it is much more than humans can take. Just watch Red Adair with John Wayne, even it''s Hollywood it is true about just one breath of it and it''s over for you

- The fast that Iran is enriching uranium that can be used to make atomic bombs, early this week, Russia said that there is potential for more dialogue with Irans nuclear production and aims. Boy that sounds like a really smart know-it-all. I even bet that they will get this person to tell all about how that the Russian an Georgia war was just a military mis-UN-der standing.
