A federation has a much better chance at survival as a democracy than something like us.

The dividing factors among Iraqis matter more than national unity.

The Kurds, Sunni and Shia will trust the each other like the Bosnians trusted Karadzic....

formr, I think the realistic view is that Iraq is or will become a federation. That is why the oil sharing law is so important.

Posted by donbl1 at 10:09 PM : Aug 11, 2008"

Iraq will come apart.......the Sunnia, Shia and Kurds DO NOT trust each other
The Shia grouping will naturally look to Iran for support which will scare the *** out of america''s AQ supporting buddies in Saudi

The Turks will NEVER recognise a Kurdish state and may well invade to prevent it happening

all your idiot leader has done is create mess for the future

Sounds like you''re talking about your "dear leader" - you know the one you americans elected TWICE and voted to give a larger congressional majority to in 2002 .....and whose clone over 50% of your americans might support in 2008 (in that I include those who support McCain and the undecideds hence the word MIGHT)

Iraq will disintegrate into 3 secular states regardless of what we do or how long we do it.

I agree Sgt, but when before the blood shed or after.

Posted by ApprxAm at 10:02 PM : Aug 11, 2008

Since, and unfortunately, a unified Iraq ceased to exist in March of 2003, we now have a fragmented Iraq.

The future of Iraq will resemble the past of the former Yugoslavia.

After our departure, there will be flexing of forces as each side jockeys for terrotority.

The UN will come in and establish the official boundaries as part of an overall accord.

The sooner we leave, the sooner it''s resolved.

The longer we stay, the longer it will take.

An election won by about 1%, BTW.....

Posted by formrusmcsgt at 10:00 PM : Aug 11, 2008"

his claims were made BEFORE the invasion and as I recall persuaded a lot more than a 1% majority (44% according to your own claims)

As I reacll the 72% his claims persuaded included the "opposition" candidate and his running mate and 40% + of the "opposition" in congress........

Ask your fellow americans - the ones who claim that if Muslims don''''t want to be generalised about they should stop their fellow Muslims committing terrorist attacks.......my guess (and it is only a guess) is that they would suggest that the M.O. would be to jail or kill the "transgressors".......

Posted by causeway_m at 09:57 PM : Aug 11, 2008
