Don''''t count the U.S. out just yet
mr2258

I hope so...back channels are needed. I fear that our belief that Putty had a "good soul", made this unnecessary. We''re distracted with Iraq, Iran and other things. The balance of power is being written and Russia wants in.

ndjam//You know, what after the first Chechen company Russia has given very much large powers to so-called fighters for freedom of the Chechen Republic? Also what they have made with it?! Have attacked the next Dagestan! Which people did not wish to live under laws of "sheriat"(they like a Talibs in Afghanistan... America struggled with them!) and with the weapon in hands together Russian soldiers protected the native land! Caucasus Emirate is an illusion of terrorists! And me nobody washed out brains I simply is better informed and I know what here to be created not only on news CNN...

Puritan has a point. We can''t be too suprised that a country has decided to do what the heck they want to do. The question of following the leader is too far fetched.

International Law permits self defense and Northern Ireland sets the stay-there principle, by protecting those left behind is being followed to the letter by Russia. Influence is needed to halt Russian, and beleive me, I''d like it halted, but the only country that can do that isn''t able on moral and technical grounds.

Maybe a coalition can be bought to task; but if trust in the United State to do anything but a proxy effort, I fear may fall short and cause this not to happen.

I guess it is time for Russia to get rid of its old weapons just like we did in the first Kuwait war in Iraq. Having a war is cheaper than disposing them properly. Great job Russia, you are following our example of spreading democracy with bombs! At least you are waring with your neighbor, we create wars half way around the world. Good job - keep on killing! We need to reduce the world population.

The U.S. does not like conflict with its neighbors, you make a good point, based on the principle `don`t sh*t where you have to live!`. Russia seems to be just the opposite and since terrorism seems to be the weapon of choice for those who can`t challenge the arsenal of Russia, Moscow can expect more terrorism inside its borders, and since neighbors at war don`t need to travel that far to deliver their terror, Russia may yet regret jumping in with both feet inside Georgia!

CHechnya was a wasteland with fighterrs with nothing to lose. Ukrainia, Georgia and other have too much to lose. Their perceived freedom, hard won after the Soviet collapse, western asperity and economic growth, none of which was apart of the rebellion in Chechnya.

The Russian advancement was eged on by Bush''s missle program pronouncement, yet undone, democratic political push in Kiev and Tblisi, and the feeling that Estonia''s removal of the Russian War Memorial, all taken as slights brought on by the west.

They''re responding to the Post-Soviet push to NATOize former satelites states and let''s not forget the Balkins. Putin is searching for former glory to go with all of that oil. The Russian people may not like what''s going on, if they''ve even heard the truth, but they like their bread and the United States and the EU hasn''t provided that either.

YOu''re not looking at this realistically....You''ve the ideal, but that''s not going to happen. The balance of power requires the flexing of POWER. Not right or wrong...those things are in the eye of the beholder. You, sir, don''t behold....and at this time, only Russia does. The walls coming down was only a metaphor..an image. But the Russian have pride and that was ignored and mistakenly, we''ve assumed that being friends with the United States on an empty stomach should''ve been enought; and it wasn''t.

Russia was going to attack Georgia in August no matter what. You can read below what I posted By Dokka Umarov - The Amir of Caucasus Emirate. You anti Americans on here dont have a clue whats going on. All you know how to do is blame Bush, blame Cheney, Blame Clinton. Blame blame. The fact of the matter is that Russia wants to destroy and take over Georgia as they once had. Soviet Union part 2.

Here Read This:

The so-called "volunteers" that is threatening to come forward against Georgia is just a sound effect of a propaganda assault by Moscow against Tbilisi. Puppet formations of pro-Moscow regimes in the occupied territory of the Caucasus Emirate are already involved in the war against Georgia, so all the Kremlin''s statements regarding this and video footages in the Russian TV channels are only propaganda curtain.

The military leadership of the Caucasus Emirate is closely monitors developments in Georgia. I can not say what actions could be taken from our side in this situation. This issue is beyond my competence.
I would like also to remind that our secret service had warned that Russia planned to start war against Georgia in August....

tbweb - Russia to be in territory of Georgia is not simple so, and as the representative of the United Nations. Duties of its peace-making forces include maintenance of the peace in region. Georgia has attacked Ossetia. It has forced to take adequate measures! Actions of Russia are absolutely lawful and adequate!

Posted by leningrad198 at 12:21 AM : Aug 11, 2008,,,

Nothing is simple black and white! Everything is many shades of gray! Shades of gray means different things to different parties and will lead to misinterpretation and global conflict! Simple is better, its best to reduce complexity to simplicity so all parties understand and are in agreement before its too late, and it may already be too late!

ApprxAm : You are dead wrong. If Ukraine, Georgia and the Northern Caucasian insurgency come together and join forces as it is being reported by Kavkazcenter, Russia will be in big trouble. They may be able to win over the military of Georgia and Ukraine but they will suffer many casualties. Plus the fact that the Northern Causasian Insurgency (Chechnya and Daghestan) forces will bring alot of Bloodshed into Moscow. I dont think that the Russian people would like that too much. Guerrilla warfare inside Russia would then have Russia calling for a cease fire. Dont go assuming anything. Remember that Russia had alot of trouble with Chechnya at one time. This may bring triple the danger to moscow.

Oh, I''m not blaming the U.S. I''m blaming the Cheney/Bush.

The United States is going to have to clean this *** up...not the EU, not NATO....America.

And I know when Vietnam started....and under whom.

The UN isn''t going to do anything because that''s not what they are for...countries act independently and criticizing Bush is asking questions.

What is going to happen next, George? All of this could have been dealt with better had the president paid attention. not the UN, Jimmy....the US President.

Did the Georgians not strike civilian targets in Ossetia first? That would mean that Georgia made the first move. Then it becomes a *** for Tat escalation. I will reiterate, the phrase of the day should be ''cease fire'' not ''give them more weapons''.

Posted by curse914 at 10:47 PM : Aug 10, 2008,,,

Even in a worst case where you claim Georgia made the first move, it was still a first move inside its own sovereign territory, it was not a first move inside Russian territory! Many Russians live inside Israel and inside the U.S.! If bad luck falls upon Russians living in other nations is Moscow now claiming it will invade everywhere Russian citizens are mistreated with missile attacks, air strikes and naval blockades? When did this new Russian Policy take effect?

ndjam...you don''t have cause to say that.....Russia will go through the Ukraine and Georgia because no one was watching them, yet....provocation came in buddles. Bush and the NeoClowns felt giving cart blanche in Chechnya and "seeing it in his eyes" would be enough to keep Putin in check.

That''s what Bush Sr, Brent Scowcroft and the numerous other former foreign policy experts were telling your heros for years. All Republicans and conservative.

Reality was never on the minds of Cheney/Bush and obvious it''s left you guys.
