- Sports is sports. We should separte sports from politics. America has its own problems like Iraq war, corruptions, racial tensions, economic problems, doubl standard on many issues, etc. If you can''t do things with high morality, how you can ask others to the "right things?" I will watch the games as much as possible. I will support those sponsors.

- The communist propaganda show has begun. The same communist regime that carried out the Tienanmen square massacre. I love the Olympic games and have been watching and enjoying them since the Montreal games in 76, but I can''t bring myself to watch this time. The IOC had other more qualified governments and cities around the world to choose from to host these Olympic games. Very disappointing and shameful!
And what is George W. Bush doing there standing along side China''s communist dictators? Bush''s visit is the first time ever that a sitting U.S. President has attended an Olympics opening ceremony abroad. Why in the world did he choose this one to fly to? - Reply to this comment

- Husein_Pasha - I didn''''t realize they had an event for international terrorists this time around. I thought the Munich games were the last time that happened.
So are Palestinians doing the rocket launch, or the suicide bomb event ?

- Ho hum; so it''s that again; professional "sports" extravaganza masquerading as the Olympic Games for amateur sportsmen (including female sportsmen).
Sorry NBC; not interested; sorry your sponsors paid so much money for the rights to advertise while your cameras show your lame brain commentators fawning in front of the camera instead of pointing the camera at the professional "athletes", and hitting the record button.
Somebody wake me when it''s over so I can get back to watching the WWE(F) again. At least there you know it is all a scam. - Reply to this comment
- Great ceremony! I wish all participants luck and won. Especially ours.

- Americans invades countries with lies, corruptions and deceit resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths, uses imprisonment and torture on detainies not charged for any crimes, threatens whole regions of the world with its nukes etc.
CHINA did not invade any country and use torture/imprisonment on anyone. AMERICA needs to look in the mirror first.

True America does need to look in the mirror but China can do the same too. China is a communist country which means they have military police everywhere. You have to be careful what you say. China does imprison and torture people and it is by far way more cruel then anything the US does.To say we are worse then China is a huge understatement.Plus,China does not abide by the rules of the Geneva Convention.Yes America does have problems by China has far worse problems. - Reply to this comment
- A wonderful opening ceremony - China is doing an incredible job. I''m looking forward to watching the whole thing. As to politics - the Olympics were created, designed, to give the world one thing where we come together, in spite of our differences. China has done a wonderful job with that in their opening ceremonies - no attempts to use any propaganda or even mention our differences (and they are right - I was deeply moved by their courage and solidarity during the aftermath of those horrible earthquakes - whatever the faults, they have a lot they do right too).
