It is reported that China is cracking down on activist activities for the Olympics to show that the "workers paradise" is just that.

This happens to be the same country that manufactures the clothes you wear, the parts for the cars you drive, the goods you buy, the pet food you feed your pet, and even some of the medicines and food YOU put inside of YOU!!!!

All thanks to neocon Fascist Nazi Republicans, Corporate America, "free" trade agreements, and "Ferengi" economics (Profit is Good!).

And yet, how different is China''s crackdown on dissent any different from what is happening here? Anti-war and Anti-Bush demonstrators can demonstrate (sometimes!) so long as it is MILES AWAY from the Great Emperor Bush II. Only good, solid, hard-core neocons are allowed to attend a "town hall meeting" by "SURRRRRGE" McCain, and anyone who disagrees with him gets thrown out.

We''ve lost most of our other freedoms, FREEDOM OF SPEECH is next!!!!!

SIG HEIL, BUSH!!!!!!
sig heil, MORE OF THE SAME, "SURRRRRRRRGE" McCain!!!!

Don''t understand how Bejing got the games in the first place. It''s not a city that anyone even wants to walk around in without a face mask on. And it''s just plain dirty.

Some of the surrounding countryside is beautiful if you can get up high enough. But fighting the traffic just to get out of town does not a real fun excursion make.

However, it is about the games and the athletes and I hope that they will all be safe, and that they all get the opportunity they''ve worked so long to get!

Good luck athletes! God bless and keep you safe!

China''s government is not a surprise, so why were they even granted the Olympics in the first place?

The pollution did not show up AFTER they were selected to host the competition, so AGAIN, why were they even granted the Olympics in the first place?

Now that they have the games, the rest of the world should just SHUT THEIR TRAPS as it SHOULD be all about the athletes.

They should be supported fully by the rest of the world, and their own countries, as they have worked hard.

For some this is their one chance at competing in the Olympics.

So shut up and make sure to support your athletes and hope they they smash China in the Olympic games.

"China has failed to improve its human rights record in the run-up to next month''s Olympics"

I''m shocked, who would have expected that from China.

I think it was a big mistake to give the games to China. The IOC should have made them change some of their social policies first as a pre-condition to hosting the games.

I don''t know how entertaining the games will be due to the smog and environmental conditions. But, the side attractions---foreigners being hassled by Chinese thought police ought to be interesting!

The IOC has made the Olympics a JOKE. The UNITED NATION has made the UN impotent and expensive.
China is still China, a COMMUNIST ANARCHY with real bullets for those that don''t bend to their will. The IOC should not have had the games in China to begin with, what did they expect would happen.

Persecuting people who speak out on human rights, might tarnish the games? GOD FORBID!

And yet in the face of all blatant human rights violations, business from all "human rights upholding" countries continue to pour capital in China. We are told by politicians that this is the way to "engage" China. Really! And when we get hit with our loss of employment, our experts from Harvard and Stanford tell us that we need not worry about it; these are natural rhythms. We are hit by greedy business people on one hand, by experts on the other. These are our own poeple.
