Snicker! Well, I''m glad to hear you''re so BALANCED in your criticism... LOL!
On the other hand, we had the illustrious Ted Kennedy leaving Mary Jo to die in a submerged car while he sneaked back to his hotel room to sleep comfortably in his bed. Then there was Jimmy Carter. Then the Democrats tried to make up for Carter with Bill Clinton, the most "not Jimmy Carter" candidate they could find.
Yah, there''s ENOUGH STUFF TO GO AROUND on both sides. - Reply to this comment
- Big oil and the Middle East oil producers wanted a pro oil President in the Whitehouse and they got Ronald Reagan who immediately stripped the solar panels from the Whitehouse. Many years later big oil still controls the Whitehouse.

The private propaganda press in the U.S. says the Germans are excited by Obama due to the history of other greats such as Kennedy and Reagan.
Truth flash: A GERMAN FRIEND OF MINE SAYS IT WAS KENNEDY AND NO MENTION OF REAGAN. The private corporate media in this country is filth and bile and hope everyone of the haters of democracy, the oligarchs who own it burn forever in the he*ll they wish to deny exists. - Reply to this comment
- Isn''''t it charming to see how the libtards will ALWAYS try to blame it on the Republican NO MATTER WHAT...

I''ll be the first to admit. It''s tough to be fair when hearing the word republican. I just think Pat Robertson, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, Bill O''Reilly, George Will, Bill Kristol, Lindsey Graham, Phil Gramm, Pastor Hagee, an endless list of vile bile spewing anti-human control freak non-visionaries that have inflicted more harm on this country in the name of patriotism and Jesus than ever has been assaulted on the principles of the american revolution in history....and no outrage, NO outrage, no checks and balances on the party of the political pros*titues in Washington and the privately owned and operated special interest propaganda media machine. - Reply to this comment

- But getting back to the news item:
For the benefit of the apparently history-impaired posters on this board, the Cuban Missile Crisis occurred during the Kennedy administration, not the Eisenhower administration.

- HOW MANY ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCES WERE DEVELOPED DURING THE CLINTON YEARS?
What''s that you say? NONE?!? But, I thought the Clinton years were SO GOOD???
Was Clinton in cahoots with the oil industry to hold back on alternative energy research???? - Reply to this comment

no mater how cheap Arabs make their oil this time, the U.S. should escape its dependency once and for all

WE DID!!! By the end of the Reagan administration, we were importing ZERO OIL from the Middle East. We got all we needed from the North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. Everyone was driving Toyotas and Ford Escorts, even Honda started making cars out of motorcycle parts.
WE WERE IMPORTING ZERO, ZILCH, NADA, NOTHING FROM THE ARAB WORLD.
But during the Clinton years, people went back to driving gas-guzzling Explorers, then Expeditions, then Excursions and Hummers and Suburbans. The Clinton administration did NOTHING to discourage increasing oil consumption and NOTHING to develop alternative energy sources.
Now HERE WE ARE AGAIN getting led around by the nose by the Arabs. WE FORGOT EVERYTHING WE LEARNED, we were too busy with our new "I didn''t inhale" world. - Reply to this comment
- Jimmy Carter was the only POTUS in the last century to have a vision to wean the USA off Middle Eastern oil. So you think that the taking of hostages by Iran to embarass Carter and put his reelection in jeopardy was a mere coincidence? Think again.

- The 1973 Arab Oil Embargo was all the wake up call the U.S. needed to abandon its dependency on foreign oil. But the Arabs were smart, played their hand well and the U.S. lost! The U.S. was very serious about not being dependent on foreign oil in the 70s, but every time the U.S. would start to invest in alternatives the Arabs would lower the price of oil making U.S. investments in alternative energy technologies look foolish and too expensive! But the joke ended up being on us as evidenced by the record oil prices! The lesson this time around is that no mater how cheap Arabs make their oil this time, the U.S. should escape its dependency once and for all, even if oil drops to 10 cents a gallon, the key is not being dependent, the key is not the cheap price!

- Congratulations George Bush, and the stupid population that elected him for 8 years. Bush has rolled back world peace to pre-second world war levels. He has undone half a century of advances in human rights, civil liberties and collaborative relations with the east.
