If by chance some phony peace settlement is announced prior to U.S. November elections here; the idea being to give RepubliCONS some ''accomplishment'' they can show the public here as a reason to be re-elected.

Any such peace settlement will NEVER last! Neither side will adhere to it over the long-run! But, in the short-term it might fulfill every sides'' short-term interests!

fedupwithit1, without our support for Israel, we will be losing our greatest resource for technology and medicine. In other words, without Israel, you would not have your computer and cellphone (and health required) for reading and dissemninating your Islamic pig propaganda.

This is clearly a ruse to prop up Bush and the Republicans. They need to show progress, they need a "win" but they will not even speak to Hamas, which exists BECAUSE Fatah has been compromised and has sold out core principles. Any deal between Israel and Fatah will have to be vetted, but the construction of new Israeli settlements goes on unabated and no one from the Palestinian diaspora will be allowed back to their old homes, so there have been no breakthroughs I can see. If you don''t talk to the principals, and don''t solve the issues, what can any agreement be worth ?

Something stinks here!

If I had a suspicious mind, I''d think that maybe Sarkozy wants to muscle into the Mid-East for France to have influence in the European Union, and cut the U.S. out of the oil equation there! And the Israelis are playing them against us, to bleed both sides!

"Peace Is Closer than ever."??

"Ever" is a long time.

So we broke it up into thirds: "ever-before,
ever-present, ever-after.

Which are we talking about?

If were talking about "ever-before" then
peace wouldn''t have to be all that
close, would it?

Talking "Peace Is Closer Than Ever-after."
means there will never be any peace.

And, suspecting it''s a white house
think-tank talking point by the resident
geniuses I guess the question
must be asked:

Do you mean to proclaim that , , ,

"Peace Is Closer Than Ever-present"?

its their fight let them go at it with sticks and stones,
why do we get ourselves involved?

666 - That would be a solution except for one thing. There is a large presence in the world that wants to "wipe Israel off the map". To demilitarize the entire region would have to mean chopping off all their arms as well. Because if it wasn''t done "they" would use anything they could get their hands on to bash the skulls of Israeli children.

There can be peace in Palestine,
1. Quit supporting apparteid.
2. Quit propping up a welfare state.
3. Demilitarise the whole region.

Fedupwithit - The headline is about peace with the Palestinians - not Iran. Iran is a different story. Iran does need to be and will be decimated.
