Surge In Violence Makes Country Deadlier For Foreign Troops
- Afhganistan is the poorist country in the World & still a breading ground for terrorism. It''s in our intrest to see this effort through & increase efforts.
Obama has a plan that will support Petreaus''s plan to send thousands of more troops to Afhganistan ---- McBush doesn''t. His plan will keep distracting from our efforts in Afhganistan - Reply to this comment

It most certainly can''t be accomplished by another warmonger.
Our best shot is one who subscribes to statemanship, rather then war. - Reply to this comment
- BajaJohn1,,, Iran is still not the major concern, Pakistan & Afhganistan are.

Of course you''re right'' J.
But, fr the administration to admit that truth, they''d have to admit that one source has ostensibly been uner our control for 6 1/2 years now and that the other source is considered to be a close ally.
It''s easier to misdirect attention to Iran than face the truth. - Reply to this comment
- BajaJohn1,,,, Where will more troops come from if not Iraq ?? We can''t enlist & train troops fast enough to supply both fronts.

Bush''s legacy will be that of a ham-handed initator of two wars and finisher of none.
Someone else will have to clean up after his bungling just as others have done for him all his life. - Reply to this comment

Although most Iraqis say their lives were better under Saddam than they are under occupation, I do not defend Saddam.
But rather, observe that he did not hand over Iraq to al Qaeda and Iran as the neocons have. - Reply to this comment
- In 1980, Wilson read an Associated Press dispatch on the congressional wires describing the refugees fleeing Soviet-occupied Afghanistan. According to biographer George Crile III, Wilson called the staff of the United States House Appropriations Committee dealing with "black appropriations", and requested a two-fold appropriation increase for Afghanistan. As Wilson was just named to the United States House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, responsible for funding CIA operations, his request went through the Carter administration.
That was not the last time he increased the CIA budget for its Afghan operation. In 1983, he won $40 million more under Reagan''s

- downsteamjim,,, I''m just giving you a better idea when the effots started,,
American funding began with $20-30 million per year in 1980 in the Carter administration and rose to $630 million per year in 1987 in Reagan''s.. It''s not my math.

- j-whitman - you can be no more certain as to when al qaeda arrived in Iraq than you can be about I can, yet you insist that it is your way in spite of all that is logical.
Yup a dyed in the wool far left liberal. I''m right, you are wrong, because I said so. Your Being liberal means you don''t have to accept responsibility ever, can point the finger, because you are always right, and you never have to say you are sorry, because had they done it your way, we''d have done it right.
What a fool. - Reply to this comment

You forgot to mention that he kept alQaeda and Iran out of Iraq, to whom the neocons left the door wide open. - Reply to this comment
- To j-whitman: Your posts [1:34 p.m. & 1:40 p.m] do not agree on the years nor the amount of money spent. As mentioned earlier, your math skills are equal to that of those in the article were posting on.

- To hoseobama: What is your problem with that lovable fuzz ball Saddam? He provided fly bye gaseous health care to Kurds. He freed trapped oil from Kuwait and burned it to shade out the sun and reduce global warming. He drained those nasty old swamps down south so that the marsh arabs could have change. He set up palaces so that his sons could have s e x education. The list goes on and on.

No this is what I''m saying:
In the early 1950s, there was a political crisis centered in Iran that commanded the focused attention of British and American intelligence agencies. In 1951 Dr. Mossadegh came to office, committed to re-establishing democracy and constitutional monarchy, and to nationalizing the Iranian petroleum industry, which was controlled by the British. From the start he erroneously believed that the Americans, who had no interest in the Anglo-Iranian Oil company, would support his nationalization plan. He was buoyed by the American Ambassador, Henry Grady. However, during these events, the Americans supported the British, and, fearing that the Communists with the help of the Soviets were poised to overthrow the government, they decided to remove Mossadegh. Shortly before the 1952 presidential election in the US, the British government invited Kermit Roosevelt of the CIA to London and proposed they cooperate under the code name %u201COperation Ajax%u201D to bring down Mossadegh from office.
