Hey guys, the Navy ran the swift boats up and down the dangerous Mekong. Many a good sailor lost his life and many were shot down in their planes.

Not to mention our Corpsmen....

guadalcanal3,,, Pakistan''s been a problem since the partition of India -- More efforts have to be spent on Pakistan as well as Afhganistan, Iraq remaians a major distraction in those efforts.

I recommend you read this, It goes pretty deep into the issues.. Saving Afghanistan - Barnett R. Rubin

And the Sunnis, Shias, and Kurds don''t want to share Iraq, they each want their own state and will have it no matter what we do.

The sooner we''re gone, the sooner they can divvy up Iraq.

BajaJohn1...Thanks for the correction...j-whitman...Yes you are right this conflict is not like Vietnam at all...except for the part about not being able to go into Pakistan and deal with their "safe havens"

reduced violence may only mean we are being snookered. Revenge against those who wrong you is a major component of Arab thinking

The Iraqis understand that if they lay low, chances improve of their getting rid of their occupiers.

both conflicts in a way are reminiscent of Vietnam, in that the Iraq war has little support at home and was initiated under false pretenses...

Posted by BajaJohn1 at 02:51 PM : Jun 22, 2008

Not to mention the misapplied strategy of using a standing army against guerilla forces.....

Revenge and Israel, that is why Iran is the long range target.

The neocons won''t be in power long enough to make that happen.

Semper Fi, bro.

I would agree with you if I beleived that terrorism, like a cockroach infestation, could be ended without stopping the breeding.

As long as our policies breed more terrorists than we can prosecute, wherever that may be, we''re losing the war.

Solving the problems in Israel would help - Europe & the UN can deal with Iran, foreign policy of Obama''s which is Reagan''s "Trust but Verify", not McCain''s of "Blame & Not Verify" will work.

Pakistan is the problem....Pakistan is a "quagmire"...just as Cambodia was during the Vietnam war...I know most of you out there won''t like me saying this...but Nixon did the right thing (militarily) when he ordered our troops to go into Cambodia to take out weapons caches and supply lines..of course that led us into the Kent State fiasco...The college kids that participated in those demonstrations meant well...but unfortunately they did not understand that we were fighting the enemy with our hands tied behind our backs. (because of politics)The only sure way to deal with the Taliban and Al Qaeda is attack them ''wherever they are''..Or in the words of Admiral Nelson.."Straight at em''!"

I still have a feeling that Iran is the endgame. Why? Neocon revenge over the embassy takeover many years ago. Afghanistan has nothing to offer the U.S., can not think of a single vital interest.

Posted by BajaJohn1 at 02:35 PM : Jun 22, 2008

All we could bring to bear against Iran would be naval and air forces.

No conflict is ever won without ground forces, and we''re fresh out.
