"Benazir Bhutto would have supported this deal but maybe with a few tweaks here and there,"

Mrs. Bhutto was killed because the forces behind her original coup, the CIA, and General Perv Musharraf, knew that she was going to actively eliminate their assets in the region, Al Qaeda. The US needs he presence of Al Qaeda to scare the US into allowing military intervention.

A senior Western diplomat based in Islamabad, who spoke to CBS News on condition of anonymity, said "such peace agreements could well be a gamble. It''s impossible to tell if the Pakistani position will be vindicated or the U.S. anxieties will be proven."

As the late Benazir Bhutto pointed out, these militants are Pakistan citizens too and you can''t kill off that large of a segment of your population because they don''t agree with you. Benazir Bhutto would have supported this deal but maybe with a few tweaks here and there, like if the deal falls apart or is not honored, the government reserves the right and option to resume operations against Maulana Fazlullah, which is implied but having it in writing would have been a nice touch to relieve western fears. Now all Pakistan needs to do is hope this has not impacted western funding it receives for the war on terror that may dry up!
