You have it exactly right. The UN,(read Western nations) did want the Jews in their country, so they "created" Israel out of land belonging to the Palestinians. And not a day go by that they do not build more "settlements." One would think they''re talking about land that belongs to no one, like the wild west in the 1780''s, but this is land, in many cases occupied land, that belongs to Palestinian people.

Palestinian president Abbas said the last time he had a meeting with Bush he kept telling the US president about the need for Israel to stop confiscating land and expand settlements.
Mr. Abbas said Bush kept ignoring the question but Abbas kept talking about and then at one moment Bush looks at him and says, "President Abbas, I''m trying to look beyond that issue."
That''s exactly what Chamberlain said after he was criticized for giving in to Hitler.
Appeasement does not mean to give people born and raised under a military occupation the rights everyone else in the world are born with.
To grant those rights, the right to self-determation and property, is not appeasement.
Bush has it backwards and he ain''t fooling no one.
