Comments on: Children Lost To Quake Devastate Chinese
In A Country Where Families Are Allowed Only One Child, Their Loss Is Overwhelming
- We have learned, and have been taught to want. Wanting means very little, if you do not won''t for the right reason (to share it with someone and/or others.) Life is something very special. It is not a gift, as many of us are taught to think of [it] as. Children are a gift - life is a miracle, none of us understand, and we have no knowledge of how we even exist. It''s not something we can replace. Although we do a great job of reproducing - we are not able to reproduce exactly the same life twice. Someday, should we have the time to take notice, there is life all around us. And we are, but a part of a much larger existence. Earth is our kingdom...and it is fragile. We are not eternal, life is short. We are meant to be a happy, and enjoy life. It is undeniably our right.

- newster1 at 10:20 PM : May 16, 2008: I''m sure you really don''t mean to word it in such a way? These people have lived in a oppressed state for a long time. A government that was not thoughtful of their needs. Human rights and dignity was not encouraged. When we have so little, we are humbled, to have each other. This is much more important than our materialistic life style here in our comfort state. America has become a profound example of what is not important. But what is perceived to make us happy. Should we ever find peace, we will not be surprised to find it in one another. We can not blanket sorrow, when so many of us are unrestful. I would think, we would appreciate each other more, if we were to have much less. (over)

- China is a great country undergoing a horrible disaster. China has been through many horrible disasters before- floods, famines, earthquakes, wars and communism. They are not new to suffering and loss. On the other hand, they are tough and resilient. They will come back strong, build sturdier schools and move on while the Katrina victims are still suing the taxpayers that helped them.

- Very Well said MyOpinion1. I am tired of the "poor Katrina" victims. What about Florida, the Carolinas, the Tornado victims? And no matter what we think about China''s Government, the victims are the common people different from us by where they were born.

- What a contrast, Chinese soldiers are going day and night to help their country and in the U S at Katrina the us troops rode around armed, on armored vehicles with orders "shoot to kill "
In China there was not one weapon in sight. puts the U S to shame i would say. - Reply to this comment
- I wonder if the Chinese will rethink their position on one child only. I can''t imagine the grief of losing an only child, any child...

- newster,
Have you ever been to China?
By your standards "a meager living" might not buy that computer you use, or that TV you watch too much of, but in China it buys more than enough food to feed an entire family. And they are hardly "scrounging for food." According to the UN, China is one of a very small minority of countries that can feed all of its "too many people" with food grown at home. You can''t even say that for the U.S. You should be ashamed of your ignorance and coldheartedness. - Reply to this comment
- newsterr that is just wrong.

My guess is: despite her meager 13 years, she wasn''t missing as much as you are. - Reply to this comment
- " "She never really knew what life was like."
Yep, in China there with poverty, scratching by for a meager living, scrounging for food, crammed into a country with too many people as it is, yep she''s missing lots! - Reply to this comment
