Why do we still have a base in Japan? WWII ended in 1945 over 60 years ago.

Regarding the story we heard from ranger1948. This guy says he is retired military and retired law enforcement. He says he has a degree in Criminal Justice, with a minor in psychology. He would be 60 according to the 1948. I was in the military, 7th Military Police at Fort Ord, California. I never met a person with a college degree, over the age of fifty, who could not spell or type proficiently. Let alone form correct sentences using proper grammer. I think I would be more careful who I told to get an education so they can make a sensible judgement in a case, when my own education was so lacking. When he learns to spell, punctuate and type, maybe he can judge someones education or lack thereof. I would think anyone who worked in law enforcement would realize that plea agreements happen. Plea agreements do not indicate lack of guilt. Plea agreements indicate lack of conviction. A lack of conviction by the prosecutor, to try the case. They can be guilty but if the prosecutor feels the case is not strong enough, or he feels pressured, or doesn''t want to put the victim thru embarrassement of a trial where she relives the abuse, he makes a plea agreement. So I guess I find the ranger to be, "full of malarky", as we old timers are fond of saying. Maybe he is a pedophile his self. Alot of convicted pedophiles have children, and some really worked in law enforcement and were in the military.

They weren''t cleared of rape, they plea bargained down to lesser charges which saves the govt money for prosecution. I don''t alys like the way the system works but that is how it is.

There are always a few ''YAHOOS'' in every orgnaization. Justice was done. Sad to say the training begins at home and has nothing to do with the Marines which holds honorable intentions in high regard. *** and love are two different things.

You know i have said in the past it is time we stop trying o be the world police and started taking care of opur own back at home in the U.S. Nowhere in my comment did i indicate i had any sympathy for these men, but i do not jumpt to conclusions and want to punish someone before they have been tried. I am retired military and when i read these blogs everyone wants to cruficy everyone before they know the facts. I always said wait till th facts are evident and make your judegement then. I am also retired law enforcememnt. When you go on jury duty you swear to follow the rules and convict on evidence and not opinion. I am not sympathetic to these guys. They make the majority of good marines look bad. I also believe the Japanese should have taken jurisdiction but if you read the article it said that Japan had dropped the charges. Now you come on here and make stupid accusations against me when you know nothing about me. People like you would make me want a trial by judge and not a jury. I am sure they know this ranger, from personal experience, but it is long past time to consider pulling the soldiers out of Okinawa, it is clear they are not wanted there, and we could definitely use the savings in dollars at home.

Now the verdict is in and they have been tried and convicted, so we know the facts of the case now. I think the sent4ence was light bu at least the ladies in the case have received some justice.Now i hope the Japanese people realize not all Americans are like these men.
