Hi everyone, I am now in a military helicopter. First time in such a vehicle. Very nervous.
Yimeng(360327959) 11:12:51
I am now on board a helicopter. I think we can reach Shifang in about 1 hour
Yimeng(360327959) 11:34:40
Update: the communication signals from Yingxiu Town, Xuankuo Town, Wolong Town, all in Wenchuan, are very week, and we have not connected to them yet. We estimated about 20,000 people are stuck. There are aftershocks continuously, and the rain is very heavy. It is very difficult. We cannot determine the exact situations due to the very bad visibility. The General Staff has ordered that, when the parachute soldiers arrived Wenchuan, parachute by brutal force at all cost even if the condition does not allow it!
Yimeng(360327959) 11:36:38
Not yet. The copter is entering the lightning zone. I have to switch off. Will talk to you later. - Reply to this comment

Yimeng(360327959) 10:46:50
The Premier is giving a speech to the leaders of the boarding troop

Most updated news: 100,000 people stuck in Pengzhou are in danger!!!
Yimeng(360327959) 10:38:49
Due to the heavy rain, the army corps of engineers failed several times to build a bridge. In nearby places the mud-rock flows are sliding. They are calling the Premier directly. It is extremely dangerous!!!
Yimeng(360327959) 10:39:19
Due to collapsed bridges, 100,000 people are stuck in mountains. The rescuing teams and materials could not enter. There have been signs of mud-rock flows
Yimeng(360327959) 10:41:11
The Premier shouted over the phone: I don%u2019t care how you guys are, I only want the 100,000 people to be rescue, this is order. He then threw away the phone

- Somehow a nation like China manages to make the US look bad.
Here they have a natural disaster and it looks like they are doing all they can to help survivors. It seems so obvious.
But then you think about Katrina and how Bush somehow waited several days to days to do a *** thing, and then blamed all the residents of New Orleans for panicking when they were left with no help for days and days.
In China " Premier Wen Jiabao, who rushed to the area to oversee rescue efforts, said a push was on to clear roads and restore electricity as soon as possible."
Bush? He just let all those people suffer and then the evangelicals blamed the poor people stuck in that nightmare in N.O. when they freaked out.
It''s pathetic that the a man like Wen Jiabao is apparently a vastly more able leader than our own elected president. Maybe if most of the victims were black then Wen Jiabao would have abandoned them like Bush did in New Orleans. Hard to tell.
This isn''t "hate" for republicans and bush: but we have two similar incidents (except that Bush had warning about Katrina) and China is doing the obvious "right" thing and Bush somehow failed this easy test of leadership.
just send as much help as you can as quickly as possible. duh bush - Reply to this comment

- "Chinese government urged all Chinese media today to make as many reports on positive things relating to the earthquake as possible, and the government will severely punish those who spread rumors that will affect the stability of the society."
---------------------------
Yeah, they do things that way. But to be fair, if you were so bold in a press conference as to ask our president a pointed question you will be excluded from asking anything in the future, which makes you of no use to your employing news agency, which gets you sidelined, if not fired. Not as bad as Chinese prison, but the same approach to criticism.
If we did jail journalists here for national security violation news reporting, you and I probably wouldn''t know about it. How many people do you know about who got a "National Security Letter?" which they are not allowed to reveal to you or even their lawyer, under threat of prison. Your librarian did. - Reply to this comment
- "I also saw the dill pickled Mao underglass in Tiananmen Square in 1988 do they still have that mass murderer on display there? That should enlighten the rest of the free world how the Chinese government really thinks..even the Germans know better than to display a mass murderer! "
----------------------------
Yes, he, or a wax Mao were still there. No cameras allowed, file past quietly, about 20 feet from the casket. Guards stiffly at attention beside it, sea of yellow flowers (on sale outside) placed in front.
The young guide with us admitted other young people don''t like him, and she hadn''t been there, and had no desire to visit his mausoleum.
I believe they still display him because his revolution started the current government, more or less. Germany''s government under Hitler no longer exists, and they were overrun because of Hitler. Also, some in China credit Mao for ending mass starvation - I don''t know enough about that issue to weigh-in.
And finally, dill is mostly a northern European spice, I suspect rice vinegar, salt and ginger for Mao.
Where is Hitler buried anyway? - Reply to this comment

- newsjunky5...her''s how the commie propaganda machine works: "Chinese government urged all Chinese media today to make as many reports on positive things relating to the earthquake as possible, and the government will severely punish those who spread rumors that will affect the stability of the society." The mesage is true. It has appeared on Chinese official website-XINHUANEWS.NET:http://news.xinhuanet.com/newscenter/2008-05/13/content_8155498.htm

- "The Chinese government said it would welcome outside aid supplies, but not relief workers. "
and
"They probably wouldn''''t want the U.S. to help, for fear we would get a good look at the new secret nuclear submarine base they are building"
-------------------------
This is because of the same problem Myanmar (Burma) is afraid of. Spies often take advantage of the group airline ticket rates that large numbers of relief workers get. But as long as one guy bent on espionage stops to pull one victim from the rubble, it''s all worth it. - Reply to this comment
