"We had a 7.1 in San Fransisco almost twenty years ago it only killed 67 people." cbscrash07

What was the population density in California when the earthquake hit and what is the population density in the Chinese cities when the current earthquake hit?! You''''re comparing apples to oranges. You are bias, supercilious and self-righteous! It''''s people like you that are shedding my respect for Americans. Insensitive pig! silveruby

Your free to leave We don''t force people to stay unlike some countries.

The population of the bay area today is about 7.1 million with about 100 different cities in the bay area. This is one of the most populated ares of the most populated state in the United States.

"If anyone here is offended....for whatever stupid words are placed here by whatever misguided individuals for whatever reason, keep in mind that the posters are probably from a society who has the right of freedoms not known or experienced in some other society''''s..." nrgmizer

Uhm, if you''re referring to me then maybe it would interest you that I live in U.S. for more than ten years. Having freedom to speech doesn''t mean you can post vituperate comments. The freedom in speech in U.S. has gradually turn into a stupid disrespectful fest. I work with Americans every day and they COMPLAIN about everything! There are no thankfulness or anything. All Americans do now is COMPLAIN COMPLAIN and CRITICIZE. This is not an example of freedom of speech, this is an example of freedom to hate and be nasty.

"China won''''t allow anyone in, who is not Chinese and controllable. We did not hide Katrina we put the whole drama on display for the world to see." cbscrash07

This made me register to reply because it **** me off so much. There''s freaking foreign journalist everywhere in China right now! How is it not letting foreigners in?! The reason why foreign workers are not accepted at the moment is because transportation is hampered already by the earthquake! This is straight out from CNN! OMG I can''t believe the degree of this comment. News about Chinese earthquake is on every news top page. HOW IS IT HIDDING IT?! China has accepted helps from all countries! How is it not ACCEPTING IT?! It''s so disgusting how brainwashed some Westerners are in their superficial world! I HATE IT! I never thought much about Western journalism but after the obvious bias shown in the Tibet riot, I am set on defending China when unfair *** happens. This is a perfect example. GO HOME AND LEARN TO READ!

I''m really surprised that CBS News posted photos like that above with the children''s hands coming out of the rubble. Sure, it makes a great picture, but that''s someone''s child. Is it possible to show a little respect for the families of the victims? I don''t think if this was (gasp) an American tragedy you''d post pictures of dead children just to convey how tragic it is. And to all the political blabbering back and forth...shut up. Thousands of people are dead for no good reason. Get a little perspective and give it a rest.

"It''''s shocking that people are slamming China and Chinese people at a time of such tragedy. Be ashamed of yourself. Things that ticked me off:.....I personally think Chinese gov''''t are doing the best that they can, much better than Bush''''s performance for Katrina."

tphuang: You claim to care only about the innocent. Chastise any one who brings up politics and then you take a swipe at Bush. Your a hypocrite. We had a 7.1 in San Fransisco almost twenty years ago it only killed 67 people. Mostly from a very bad elevated highway design. China won''t allow anyone in, who is not Chinese and controllable. We did not hide Katrina we put the whole drama on display for the world to see. We even accepted Mexican Military help. Imagine that Mexican Military on American soil. China will allow thousands to die if it will make them look better. Foreign aid workers can not be controlled so they will not be allowed in. Many will die because of this decision. But know one will ever know because the government controls the press.

It''s shocking that people are slamming China and Chinese people at a time of such tragedy. Be ashamed of yourself. Things that ticked me off:
1. comment about nuclear submarine base - this earth quake is a complete different part of the country, don''t be stupid
2. comment about free tibet - they are helping all Chinese people there including Tibetans to free themselves from this disaster.
3. blaming Chinese gov''t for bad buildings - the freaking earthquake was 7.9 on richter scale, what building can withstand that?
4. blaming democrats - how did the democrats even get into this discussion?
5. blaming Chinese gov''t for asking the media to report good news - that''s because the conspiracy theorists are making up junk on Chinese bbs.

I personally think Chinese gov''t are doing the best that they can, much better than Bush''s performance for Katrina.

"Redhoffer" says it all/! BRAVO! And, just like it is!
China''s Main Official has more compassion and honest caring in his little finger than Bush with our own disasters of Katrina and Iraq/this guy is down and getting dirty trying to rescue people himself/immediately after the 1st waves of this earthquake/where was Dubya?...we were worse than a 3rd world country against our own citizens in New Orleans and all along the coast/Shame!!!Still has not done the assistance/done nothing about it''s recovery/as he SHOULD HAVE DONE...immediately "BEFORE" the Hurricane Hit...A Disgrace beyond Discription!! Brad Pitt has done more for the people, used his own money and time, building new homes and caring for the residents down there 10,000 times better than our own goverment!!! Thanks, Brad Pitt...and "all" the people that have done their upmost to assist and re-build this city back!!"ALL" of AMERICA should be reminded of this atrocity/until all is well again for our own!Remembering 1st and foremost/right along with our precious young men and women in Iraq/that are dying every single day because of Bush''s selfish, cocky, unbelieveable lies with a testosterone chaser to honor his bloody ego! Yes, he will go down in History as Accomplishing his Mission of sending our kids off to die for his because HE IS THE HEAD HONCHO and because he has THE POWER to do whatever he wants/no matter the price!

Saving people''s life is the most important. It should transcend any differences -race, nation, politics.

We are just leaving the horrific scene at the Juyuan Middle School outside the city of Dujiangyan. Hundreds of parents are still standing in the rain as the army works to find children trapped in the rubble. One parent told us she could hear her son calling. A scene of utter desperation. Back a couple hundred feet was an area where rescuers -- peoples armed police -- were bringing bodies that had been retrieved. Families were rushing over to see whether the child was theirs. Under tents are families burning incense and candles and paper money next to the shrouded bodies of their loved ones. A terrible, terrible scene.
