- What in the h--- is wrong with these so-called government higher-ups?Evidently they want "ALL" the survivors to croak as well as the 100,000 that were lost.Maybe it came @ a good time for them so they wouldn''t have to start a massacre to cut the population-"We''re so glad & lucky this typhoon came @ this time so we can save our bullets and not dull our machetes!Dumb, stupid, ignorant, testosteroned controlled Military idiots! Watching the news with them handling the few boxes,sacks/foodstuffs and supplies-that they "have" let in and accepted-one by one/as S L O W as they can possibly go/wears one out-just watching them!@ that rate/they''re all going to die!Yeh/they can handle "ALL" of it without any outside help!RIGHT!!!Maybe the stench of rotting/decomp of the multitudes of human & animal corpses, the malaria,no food,no clean water, the amebic dysentery that will finally take care of them all will finally overwhelm these military honcho''s and there will be an empty island to bulldoze/These poor people they are letting die/Hope "ALL" of these "Controllers" to the key to the city-have 100 times the horror-suffering & dying-far worse than these poor innocent souls that do not understand why someone is not coming to save them/totally unaware of what is "NOT" happening!!! All of the World is trying to help-to NO AVAIL !!! Poor People !!!

- Perhaps if this government is left alone to deal with their problems, the nation will rise against these tyrants and cause their fall.

- From the story, "The front page of the newspaper showed the country''s prime minister handing out 20 televisions and 10 DVD players..." Just what a sick and hungry nation needs. (cynically speaking here)

- If controlling powers in Myanmar are selective about from whom they will accept help, and since the U. S has offered and has been turned away, forget them. We can''t storm our way in and force it down their throats.

- The U.N. would also be in a much better position to provide civil services for the task of "nation building". This should be the overall goal of a world organization. incognito
Yes, the UN can handle it just like Haiti and Somalia and the Sudan, and every other place where people have been starved and killed. Yes, let the UN handle it. - Reply to this comment
- It''s a shame we don''t have enough spare armed forces with the latitute to open fire who could go in there and hand out aid whether the military government of Myanmar likes it or not.
Of course we could also just say "Okay, fine, starve. Have it your way."
Eh, forget it. Not our problem. You didn''t see the Myanmar government handing out food after hurricane Katrina so I don''t see why we should go out of our way just to be told to go home. - Reply to this comment
- Their military junta doesn''t see it that way.

- Myanmar should get disaster relief. There is no political motivation. The Victims of the natural catastrophe are starving, thirsty, naked, and in need of medicine. The United States is only offerring emergency supplies.

- The military will let the plane in but take the supplies for their own use. They have shown that they don''''t care about their people. Those who are gullible will insist that it''''s a start and the military wouldn''''t dare take the aid meant for the people. They already have and will do so again.

Nobody''s guillable. They will be shamed into doing the right thing. China had to give on the Dahli Lama. While they are not talking directly with him they are talking to surrogates. One way or another they will have to contend with world view. - Reply to this comment

- Its time to replace this gang of thugs. We should ask China to help us liberate these poor people.

- The Myanmar prime minister knew that those people didn''t need food or medicine. All they needed were TV''s and DVD players. They make great paper weights. Great photo op.

- Again the Burmese military junta exhibits how precarious its control of the country is. It continues to use terror, hunger, and a complete disregard of human rights in order to control the civilian population. Like China, this regime''''s #1 priority is to protect its control of the nation rather than protect and respect its people.

Exactly. They will permit one flight into their country from us. It''s a start but now that the whole world is watching I''m sure they will want to save face. - Reply to this comment

- Who the hell needs a DVD player? They have no food, water or electricity. But I''m sure they all have plenty of DVD''s to not watch on their new DVD players because THERE IS NO ELECTRICITY! Having been through several nasty hurricanes myself, beginning with Andrew and ending with Wilma, and going without power for weeks, I can definitely tell you that watching movies on a brand new DVD player was not a top priority for me during those times.

- Wow there sure are alot of "ideas" floating around on what to do with ''Burma''. I say we should walk away, and give that ''food'' to people in the USA who are starving. If they dont want our help-Fine!! Dont try to force it on them, hey, we offered...now walk away.
