The quality of Chinese products still needs to be improved. But Americians should know
that you got what you paid for. Just like if you buy from ebay, somethimes it is cheaper,
but not that good quality.

Walmart goes to China and tries to knock down the price to a very low level, that Chinese

companies have to be very cost-efficient to meet that demand. Rich Americans can obviously go

for more expensive products, but given 800k people filing bankrupcy each year, there is a

significant need for goods from China, although the quality is not the top level.

Americans have every right to avoid buying Chinese goods, nobody is putting hands into your
pockets. Buying cheap products then complaining about the quality is just pathetic.
Also, I don''t think that would harm Chinese economy, given the small profit margin
and a weakening US currency, Americans not Chinese are actually benefitting from the cheap

goods. You can use the saved money for other purposes.

As for the other questions, I appologize if at times our food harmed people who used it but I also condemn poeple who use those incidents to insult the majority of our goods. As I said in my previous comments, China is sitll a third world country and inevitably still has many problems in many aspects. We did not intentionaly try to poison the buyers. But please listen, we all love our country even it is still struggling with its many problems and we Chinese are trying our best to do better.

Tibet is still a trouble area for the Chinese government. I understand, as a minority, you do feel things are not fair sometimes.. This is probably true in the rest of world. People of other ethnic groups are moving into Tibet, the local Tibetans feel the pressure. So many stores opened by non-Tibetan were the target this time. Lamas still want to restore Tibet to its earlier state, so they can get their privilege back. Many former slaves still obey
Dalia Lama due to their religion. It is a very complicated situation. However, Chinese government is determined to keep Tibet as part of the country. No country would let go a land 4 times the size of Oregan, and was part of the country for 800 years. If Tibetans beleive they should be independent, native American indians have every right to demand their land back, given most Americans are here only for 300 years.

When Deng Xiaoping took office at the end of 1970s, the Chinese were surprised by the outside world. It was clear that China was far behind the first tier countries. The country is not in
the right direction. So, the sentiment then was, everything from western countries is good.
Obviously, the crackdown was disappointing to many young chinese who believed demoncracy is the way to go. Many of them later changed their minds because the system in western countries is not that perfect. The cost of democracy is lower efficient in terms of economic development.

At the same time, the new government''s policy is very favorable to minority ethnic groups like Tibetans. They can get into colleges with much lower scores, they got more government subsidies. A new railroad was built to Lhasa two years ago. It was gigantic project since it must go through mountains. Many chinese died for that. As a result, the popular has doubled after 50 years.

Here is my understanding of the Tibet problem.
Tibet has been part of China since 12th century. It has been on the map of each and every
dynasty since then. I think part of the reason is China was once a very powerful nation in the world. Tibetans were protected that way. They
also enjoyed enough autonomy because Tibet is in the mountains. The control over Tibet
is loose.
Tibet was briefly "independent" during 191x to 195x during the time China was in a big
mess of civil war and World War II. During that period of time, there are many warlords,
who claimed got a piece of the country, which were eventually cleaned up by the communist
party.
50 years ago, when Dalai was in control, 95% Tibetans were slaves, 5% of the Tibetans
were Lamas, they own all the land and slaves. When communist party took over, they freed all slaves because slavery is obviously against communism. There were uprises and crackdowns
afterwards, because Lamas wanted to get the land back under control. Also CIA supported
Tibet independence as part of the cold war strategy. Communist party suppressed such
uprises, and I guess there were human rights violations as this was a dark period of Chinese history.

China''s got lots of problems, but it seems
human rights is not one of them. I have been in US for 10 year. Honestly, I don''t think, Americans enjoy more human rights. In today''s China, you can freely condemn the president,
govenment. People are doing this every day. Peaceful demonstations are allowed. But obviously,
you will be arrested for any violent demonstrations, just like in the US.

Economically, the country is in an early stage of capitalism. So, people are more worried about how to make more money. Most companies are now privatized, including some of the newspapers and TV stations. Negative news about the government can be heard because they
want to attract readers/audiences.

The country has undergone lots of changes in the last 30 years. It is time to change your judgment and reexamine china. Saying it is the same as 50 years ago is simply incorrect.

Chinese are very angry this time, because they believe Olympics is a good opportunity to expose to the world a whole new China, but unfortunately, the Western media and people are still holding their old prejudices.

You are telling the world such a joke. I eat our food everyday and do not work out due to the nature of my job and I still have a very fit body at my late 30s.

So it is very clear what makes you fat is not our food!!!

Chinese goods actually give you all more buying power with your limited disposable income. Just do not lie to yourself once and admit it.

As for the other questions, I appologize if at times our food harmed people who used it but I also condemn poeple who use those incidents to insult the majority of our goods. There is no reason for Jack Cafferty to insult our country and our people. His stupid behavior is the perfect statement to prove the world what kind of media CNN is. If the Americans enjoy this mean, old man with a filthy mouth bringing them distorted new, let them enjoy. We Chinese will shout at him: Shut Up!!!! Let us all mind our own business. We Chinese should keep our hard work and continue to build our country a better place to live.

Is there any truth to the rumor that the Tibetan baseball team will be allowed to compete in the up coming Olympic games? Also, why are you guys always putting ''LEAD'' in the food products you sell us? I work out a lot, but I''ve gained 20 pounds since eating your food products. It''s becoming an effort just to lift my feet.

Why is the graphic illustration of this story that of an Asian man clutching his head in apparent frustration along with a PRC flag as background?

Would CBS news show a picture of a random frustrated white guy facing down when reporting, say, a controversy between France and a US news outlet?

Is it that difficult to find a stock photo of the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson!? I find it unnecessary for CBS News to contribute to the image of the Chinese as a face-less group of people. Sadly, this is an example of the subtle racism that exists in the US media.

Agreed!!!!!!

"Thank you!" That''''s what the USA and Great Britain need to hear from the Chinese Communist Government. If we had not fought the Japanese so long and tough during World War II, there would be no China today.

USA and Japan are two of the eight countries who invaded China in 1900 - you know why they got a lot of money to spend in WWII
