Olympic Torch Relay Gets Warm Reception In Argentina
- It is a *** shame that when there is a chance to show something good in this world idiotic protesters have to go and screw it up. Albeit the situation in Tibet is terrible, however; trying to influence the Chinese government by messing with the travels of the olympic torch is no way to make your point. These idiot protesters need to realize the only ones they are potentially hurting are the young, hard working, dedicated athletes who have trained most of their lives to compete for their country... against the best in the world, don''t mess that up for them!

- To ixoye_02: There are many ways in promoting human rights and freedom in China, but attacking a female torch bearer in a wheel chair is the worst way I have ever seen.

Are you in your day dream? or you have watched too many Hollywood movies. If you really feel obliged to comment of Tibet history, read some books by some serious researchers. - Reply to this comment
- To lovegetpeace: China is hosting the Olympics and showcasing it''s progress to the world. Ideally that progress would include respecting human rights, not only economic progress. The world via the protestors is responding by saying that "China''s honor is tainted by her treatment of her citizens in Tibet. Economic progress is good but political progress has to include basic human rights." The situation in Guantanamo is horrible. BUT Americans are uniting and speaking up against the abuses at Guantanamo. And eventaully our political processes would be influenced to change the current situation. I don''t see throngs of Chinese people protesting in Beijing about what is happening in Tibet. Rather the Beijing govt is misleading her own people through their media (not unlike how western media can mislead) by telling half-truths and demonizing a spiritual leader. I don''t really care that China is hosting the Olympics....but the honor that goes with hosting the Olympics and the spirit of Olympics should be upheld by the host nation. China just doesn''t cut it this time. And so China should feel embarassed and dishonored.

- China pledged to better human rights in order to host the Olympic Games.
1,3 billion Chinese cannot access this site.
That more or less says it all.

- It is a genuine happiness to see that the some people of China, albeit government propagandists, are using America''s free speech to voice themselves. When this privilege is granted to every citizen of China the whole world will cheer.

- Hate, greed, arrogance and intollerance must be erradicated. The process is already underway. - RandyNason
And it this process you speak of is epitomized with by a nation that murder their own citizens, repress freedom of expression, and exterminate large undesirable populations through forced relocation and organ transplant camps. - Reply to this comment
- All that is wrong with the world is only symptomatic of the bigger disease. Hate, greed, arrogance and intollerance must be erradicated. The process is already underway.

- Look at the picture of the little boy who is protesting. Doesn''t he look more like a clown than a protester? What a circus!!

- lovegetpeace I haven''t see you protest anything other than this protest against China.
You pick your fights and I''ll pick mine. But I''ll guarantee one thing: You stand in Tienanmen Square and I''ll stand in front of the White House, you and I will both protest the lack of freedom to practice religon and I can guarantee that you''ll be in a Falun Gong prison schedule to have your organs removed and I''ll be at a bar drinking beer, waiting for your liver. - Reply to this comment
- I was amidst the crowd in San Francisco by the Ferry Building. And for the most part, the demonstrations were orderly and non-violent. There were spirited arguments between groups of protestors but no physical violence.
It''s good to see free speech at work. Certainly there are those who would argue that Tibet is and will always be a part of China. But we cannot forget or be silent about the oppression and murder by the chinese government heaped upon the Tibetans in an effort to migrate as many Han chinese into Tibet to dilute the native population and take control. It''s not unlike what''s happening in Darfur. And China does have the influence and power to stop the bloodshed in both Tibet and Darfur. The media, however, in China and in the free-world are good about framing these issues in Tibet to be a "non-issue". Whatever happened to the "Never Again" chants over the Holocaust? I guess people value economics and money over principles and people. Genocide is beneath our noses and the "christian" leaders of western countries look the other way. And since China is now the big money machine, the US and other western countries have to silence themselves over human rights violations to protect economic positions. Shame on our leaders!! And God protect those who speak for the powerless!!! - Reply to this comment

- The Olympic committee has shown how it has sucked up the under the table pay-offs the Chines government has given it by its actions in San Francisco today.
At this point I''d rather watch a bad show of failed comedy than this tragedy called the summer olympics. - Reply to this comment
- I live in the SF area, and from what I see on a regular basis...
...I''d say at least half of the protesters probably do not have any clue about what they are protesting for or against. The plight of the Tibetan people goes beyond most of their understanding. Besides, in San Francisco and Berkeley (across the bay), there are thousands of professional protesters who do nothing but spend their lives out in the streets with poorly painted signs on 2x4 wooden posts... yelling as loud as possible. They must go through hundreds of throat lozenges every week. - Reply to this comment
- "I think what happened in London and Paris didn''t help their cause. They got in the way of the message," the city''s mayor Gavin Newsom told reporters at China Basin, the waterfront starting point for the relay.
"I encourage people to protest honorably and respectfully. Going after a torch bearer in a wheel chair, I have no respect for." - Reply to this comment
- Truth in SF: There are more American people supporting torch relay than a few "demonstrants" attacking the handicapped woman in wheel chair.
