Can anyone tell me why the pharaoh sent his army after the jewish tribes,when he let them go himself?After all the various troubles,why would he want to pursue them?

It took ten terrible plagues sent by God to force pharoh to his knees and let the Israelites go. When the last plague took the life of his own son, pharoh finally relented .But when he then hardend his heart (wanted revenge) and chased the departed Israelites to kill them.

Intrestingly not so long ago, I saw adocumentary about egyptian artifacts found on the bottom of the red sea,chariot remains , spears,and general battle weapons.All in a staight line across!
