Re: Philipino woman and the Army soldier story: "after the alleged attack after meeting with a serviceman in a hotel".

That one sounds fishy to me - particularly after the pre-arranged meet in a hotel. I for one would not rule out:

"That will be $500, G.I."

"$500?!??!? You said $100 before we started!!!!"

"You want I should call police, GI?!?!? You want I should say you rape me, GI?!?! You want go to Okinawa jail, GI?!?!?"

"**** you and the horse you rode in on!!!!"

"Help!!! Rape!!!! (I show you, GI.)"

I can''t blame this one on Bush, except that he has lowered our standards for acceptance into the armed services.

The charged Marine was a Staff Sargeant. Even at the faster promotion rates that accompany wartime service, his rank suggests that his enlistment preceded the loosening of standards.

When I was in the Army, one of my assignments included a tour on Okinawa, where I was stationed on a Marine base.

The Okinawans - and later also the Japanese, after we returned the island - have long had justifiable reasons to resent the yearly or better rapes of their young women.

"Justifiable", as in "they happened".

"I can''''t blame this one on Bush, except that he has lowered our standards for acceptance into the armed services. Because he has so overtaxed and depleted our military so that it cannot protect us, even when they are inducting street criminals because of not reaching recruitment quotas. On second thought, I CAN blame this on the Cowardly Cowboy with more veracity than he can say, "Mission Accomplished!".

The previous President had gutted the military to balance the budget. That is a FACT.

jhv6379-so I can only imagine that you are one of those libs who only holler "old news" when it''s one of your own?? Typical hypocritcal lib.
DOes frank still run his male escort serice from his DC office? Any more news on MA governor top aide, mcgee, and his charge of assaulting a young boy at a Florida resort?? Oh yea, you didn''t see that on this site.
Too bad about studds but I''m sure he took the image of his party appaluading him to his grave. Talk about rape, I do believe there has only been one president accused of rape. It was a real nice job the media did on vilifying the women who were abused by your bubba. Guess madame clinton doesn''t consider women abuse by her hubby worthy of her feminism leanings.
Anything else you want to talk about???

For those who have difficulty remembering, US bases in Japan were established during the administration of a president from the Democrat Party.

I have memories of Okinawa. 1967, I spent 5 weeks
on Okinawa as a young Marine. Camp Hanson. We had to go on "liberty" as groups of three or four Marines because if ya went out to Kin Village alone you would
be attack by groups of local young people.

I posted, too-- I cannot believe we still hear stories about soldier abuse, etc. It drives the Pentagon crazy, because they know sooner or later it will happen again. Meanwhile, this is only the investigative phase, and there may be another angle to it. In any case, this has happened before, and much too often.

As for the monomania about Islam, the poster "terrorislam(insert latest number here)" is on a mission. He imagines he is Paul Revere, alerting sleeping, Aryan Christians to the Islmaic hordes ready to storm ashore.

Amazingly enough for a guardian of liberal democratic values, he falls into the trap laid by bin Laden and others of his tribe, who want a sharp geopolitical polarization between religions. This, they believe, is the only way to unite Muslims across the world. In effect, terrorislam# works for bin Laden, himself.

It is worthy noting terrorislam likes to call violent Islamic theocrats "fascists", as though calling them "Nazi" (and has done that, too). He has been reminded the rest of the world defines fascist differently, as closer to the Bush oligarchy (of which he may imagine himself a part), but this brings embarrassing inferences.

People do not realize we have stationed combat troops on Okinawa since the end of WW2, and the Japanese of today are not the same polite people who resigned themselves to their emperor''s wish and surrendered some 63 years and three generations ago.

Here and there, the old stereotype of pushy, chauvinist, expansionist Japanese- The Ugly Japanese-- re-emerges. When a US sub surfaced off Hawaii during routine tests, it happened to collide with and sink a Japanese tour boat. Insensitive to the fact this obvious accident happened within miles of Pearl Harbor, some intensely nationalist Japanese hotheads demanded the US sub captain apologize to Japan.

And recently, Japanese whaling vessels were caught by Greenpeace using explosive harpoons for whaling, and killing baby whales with clear disregard for international convention on whaling.

All to suggest American post-Cold War troop deployments in the area need to be reevaluated more often. Some 50,000 US Marines on Okinawa is not a credible deterrent to any large-scale movement of armies. And clearly, Okinawans no longer consider US troops to make a valuable contribution to either their security or economy.

Close the base, pull the soldiers home, save the money, we don''t need a linchpin that costs more than it is worth, especially if our soldiers take liberties with the local populations as if they were colonial slaves.

The "LBFM" sobriquet or the "poontang" name given to the women in these countries is symptomatic of the lack of regard for these people as human beings, and indicative of a lack of respect.

This gives the lie as to the claim that we are there protecting these people, or their human rights, as we most often are the worst abusers.
