"a rising furor over a recent series of crimes blamed on American troops, including the arrest last week of a Marine on suspicion of raping a 14-year-old."

And these guys are supposed to be America''s "best and brightest"?

Hey moron terrorislam, early christianity started in 325 with the council of nicea, that''s were the emperor ((emperor coming from the word empire))constantine said that anybody practicing a different religion from christianity would be executed, and they killed thousands in the name of christianity. He said this while in Constantinople, Turkey, go to Turkey and ask them what religion does the majority practice over there. this should give you an idea who was in whose land first.

terrorislam, the moors invaded Spain in 791 but spain wasn''t christian at the time, they were visigoths, meaning they followed aryanism, which has nothing to do with christianity, they lost the empire because there was fighting between visigoth factions and one of them aided the muslims in the invasion. The spaniards should be thankful, since when the moors invaded, the rest of europe was in the dark ages, all there was was lawlessness (kind of like the US navy now in Japan), poverty, starvation, diseases, supersticion, and fear of everything (republican paradise). Thanks to the early muslims, not the fanatics that came in the second muslim invasion (those were more like the taliban, A.k.a as freedom fighters by imbeciles that vote for bush and reagan), christians, jews and muslims lived side by side, they had one of the few universities in all of europe in Toledo, irrigation system, palaces, and agricultural advances. The rest of europe was naked , running and screaming. When Spain became completely under control of christians, in 1492, the first thing they did was expell all the muslims and jews from the peninsula, and went back into the times of intolerance and lawlessness.

You are right payback is a b itch, don''t forget to remember that when they do the next 9-11 on us.

I think japan should exercise their democratic right and kick the US''s arse out of there. Who would want criminals living around them. The war ended in 1945, they have no business occupying that country anymore.

I also believe the US should make Japan foot the bill for defending them. Newspaper editors and politicians here are always whining about the burden they have. Give me a break! We need to let them revise their Constitution and make them spend more of their GDP on the military and have them send their soft boys out to stand in the face of China, Russia and Kim Jong Il. I will say this: outside of Okinawa, this has generated very little buzz. Most people understand how things work and that it''s impossible to completely wipe out crime. Okinawa has the biggest burden and they really want to get rid of the military. I can see their point because Okinawa is too beautiful an island to be taken up by so much military. And the people have a historic distrust/dislike of the military due to the devastation of WWII and the lies fed them by the then-military government which caused many to commit suicide. The only problem for them is if the military leaves, what will they survive on. There and in my town, the US military accounts for a huge part of their economy. Okinawa is the poorest prefecture in Japan and believe me, the landlords, bar owners, shop owners, etc. do not want to see the military go. Their livelihood would suffer seriously.

You MCVet has some serious problems. I will not argue nor attempt to explain anything rational to someone who continues to post incoherent jibber jabber. Perhaps some encouragement may help, so I will simply say - think before you speak.

The military is just like society as a whole. There are criminals and bad people in it. Let me say to those of you who are just reading a story and don''t really know anything except for what you read, don''t let these stories prejudice you. They are always looking for anything to use against the U.S. military here. The VAST majority of service personnel are exemplary guests. I have served here in Japan and still live here. Ask yourself this: Why has it been over a week and the previous incident still hasn''t been changed from "alleged" rape? Does it really take that long to find out if the girl was raped? I am not condoning what the guy did but still...she got on his bike of her own accord. If he abducted her, they should throw the book at him. But those kinds of crimes, rapes and sexual assaults happen here on a daily basis. Check the Mainichi Shimbun''s English website and see for yourself. The crime rate for the armed forces is at or lower than the level for Japanese. They just need a scapegoat and politicians here, like in the States, are shameless opportunists. Take it from someone who knows: Service members, by and large, are doing an outstanding job.

The ethics of the military class - lack of freedom, in other words, discipline, idleness, ignorance, cruelty, debauchery, and drunkenness...
Leon Tolstoy "War and Peace" Pg. 933
-----------------------------------

It ain''t pretty, and we don''t like it, but it is true! We would much rather maintain our denial about certain realities of the human condition. Four years in the Navy taught me very well how true it is. Maintaining large numbers of our young men at these huge bases overseas in peaceful countries is insanity. Except for those exploiting the "economic" benefits (domestic and foriegn) - they don''t want us there. And we could sure find better things to spend all that money on!

The previous President had gutted the military to balance the budget. That is a FACT.

No that is NOT a fact and the PROOF is in the fact that we conducted SEVERAL successful actions under his watch as well as Sir Lies-A-Lot used the SAME military to attack Afganistan AND Iraq. IF you check the facts as well the fascist were in charge of Congress at the time. Yes they shut the government down over disagreements with Clinton but NONE of them over the MILITARY... all were because Clinton wouldn''t let them cut taxes without showing spending cuts to pay for those tax cuts. It''s all there in the Congressional Record swastika breath!! Now let''s let the fuhrer hear you... he needs to know you bootlickers are out here for him. Ready? SIEG HEIL MEIN FUHRER!! Good little Nazi!!

Has it crossed you VERY small and insignificant little mind that MOST of us UNDERSTAND what Obama''s wife meant and see NO need in continuing trying to create a wedge issue with it? Just because YOU practice FASCISM does NOT mean the rest of us do!! Sieg Heil McCarthy!!

Why are we funding the defense of Japan after 60 years? I agree with Ron Paul bring our troops home and start using that money to take care of our own nation.
