emelder,

Re: "The captain should be recalled for consultations ... he ought to have eliminated the threat to his vessals, especially after wooden boxes were put in the path of our ships."

There was no threat, other than the vague inaudible, and probably fake comment cited by CBS Newz. There were no boxes, as was evidenced in the earlier video shown with this article. If there were boxes, they would have posed no threat, since the smaller boats shown were behind and to the side of the Naval vessels shown, hence, no threat at all from these nonexistent boxes.

If the captain were to have been stupid enough to fire at these boats, odds are that this would have been the last that we would have seen of them, that it would have started a world war, that our already badly strained military would have been snapped, and that the hundreds of thousands of Americans in Iraq would soon be dead.

Re: "Where''s our backbone?"

Right next to our dignity and your common sense- in the toilet, spinning and plunging.

We surrendered our backbone when we allowed an unelected ********* of a wannabe dictator seize control of our country, and rule us by hatred, ignorance, and fear.

You know, if a bunch of US battleships can''t handle two or three freaking fishing boats without hollering wussy wuusy they''re harrassing us! We are in BIG trouble!

Bush wants Iran so bad he will push this **** ant nonsense into an international incident. When he got his hands on that $70 billion it hasn''t taken him, what, two weeks to start trying to find ways to use it in Iran.

Toddfboyle represents a tiny minority of Americans (NOT ALL OF US for SURE) who fall into the category of "The far-left".

Yes - a tiny majority of 76% of the American population that think Bush is an incompetent oaf, and needs to leave.

"Mr. President - please fire your cabinet, and then quit. Two weeks notice is not necessary, and we will get by without an administration, better than we have with yours in place."

toddfboyle,

Re: "The U.S. should apologize to Iran for overthrowing their government in 1953. Oh-- of course-- that would require our lying politicians to actually behave as responsible adults instead of running half a dozen rackets with all their creepy, gangster supporters. SO THIS IS FOR YOU IRAN: THE AMERICAN PEOPLE APOLOGIZE TO YOU. WE ARE TRYING TO GET THE CRIMINALS OUT OF OUR GOVERNMENT."

Well said. You appear to have made one of the creepier of their supporters uncomfortable. Good job.

Ho-hum...Bush needs to go to the Middle East in "danger mode" so he''ll look "brave and fearless" to American TV.
Provocations? Here''s some : the US ignoring the assessment of the NIE and still insisting Iran is a nuclear threat, admittedly parking carriers over there in a "show of strength", and Bush hinting that WW3 will start if Iran gets nukes. Here''s more:
The USS Vincennes shot down an Iranian passenger 747 in the 80''s, claiming that they thought it was an F-14 (Bush Sr: "I''ll never apologize for my country,I don''t care what the facts are").Uh-huh.
Then of course the US supported our old (dead) friend Saddam when he attacked Iran ,kicking off a bloody 8-year war.Nice.
How about the CIA helping to overthrow Iran''s Prime Minister Mossadegh-who was replaced with the US-friendly Shah, who was ousted by the Ayatollah Khomeini.
So yeah,Iran would be remiss if they didn''t check out ships with the Stars & Bars on ''em.

Notice that the alledged communication from the Iraqi speedboat...have you ever tried to talk with your bottom thumping across waves?...Did you hear the Evinrude''s roar?...Did you hear anything but perhaps the finest radio transmission equipment, perhaps in the world, delivering what sounded like a machine voice? That''s amazing quality...the US Navy needs to ask the Revolutionary Guard Navy where they buy their radio equipment....Amazing quality...zipping along the waves, the water blowing in your face, the whine of the Evinrude and the rhythmic change in the sound you would hear as the boat moved along....

What an awesome way to prove what men of peace those jerks are. Prompting talk of revenge and now this.

I''m not discounting the things said to be disproven, but most people who ARE peaceful don''t respond to such vindication with "The US shall pay dearly" and then do stunts like that. There is a larger picture. This doesn''t mean war, but anybody trusting Iran is either foolish or expecting something big later on.

Yup the results come in all flavors, a lot of it is posted and used on pro-nazi and white bigot sites. There is good and bad to every nation and race, you can''t just hightlight what you wish to use to get your own pont of view across. Israel exists and the Arabs exist there also. Both of them have to get real and try and live with each other in the UN mandated areas that were decided upon in 1948. Anything else is just going to prolong all of the killing and misery. No one gets all of their own way in political settlements. What President Clinton got as a deal for them both in Sept 2000 was about as good as it is going to get, if you are really interested in peace and co-existance and a bright future for people.

libsluvsuvs,

Re: "you are a bullsh*tter...and a terrorist"

Would you care to attempt to challenge any of my observations, or is name-calling all that you have to offer?

###

First off, if the U.S. is claiming a right to be in that area, then the Iranians certainly retain that right.

Secondly, the video does not show anyone throwing anything into the water, so the earlier claim that the Iranian boats threw boxes into the water, as was depicted in the earlier cartoon provided by CBS, appears to be an outright lie.

Next, there is no clearly audible threat from anyone, claiming that they will blow up these ships. The inaudible alleged "threat" also is presented after the video ends, and is only in an accompanying audio, leaving the possibility that the audio message was made fabricated.

Finally, I have never marked the same article twice to my knowledge, but since CBS has so drasticly changed both the text and the video for this article throughout the day, I would like to mark this CBS piece as exhibit "S", in the case of CBS complicity, in the fomentation of yet another fraud-based criminal war of aggression- this time against Iran.
