yeah j-whitman, would this be the same commander of CENTCOM that thought the surge wouldn''t work ?

The same Admiral Fallon that sent in a Rear-Admiral to assess the situation in Iraq and on that Rear-Admiral''s briefing wanted to do exactly the opposite of what General Petreaus recommended ?

Something which you, to this date, refute was the single best thing that has ever happened in a recent theater which involved an ''insurgent'' or underground opposition ?

The important thing is that they were released without being tortured.

boatdocster at 04:21 PM,

Very good comment, however:

Re: "The one thing that was fairly constant in my military travels - foreign people don''t hate Americans, they hate our government and its double standards to everyone else."

I hope that we, the People, will chose a different course soon, or we may lose this luxury.

Yes, Iran will remain a potential threat --- But as the Commanding Officer of CENTCOM says --- "Iran is not an immediate threat"

j-whitman,,,,And you think America should wait until Iran gets its so desired nuclear bomb? Then will be too late. Everybody thought Hitler wasnt an immediate threat.

mbcsmith,

yes they certainly did. But to be fair to them, that is not the only thing they blew either.

America has forgotten is roots, and lost its morale compass, about oppression via force from our own dealings with the British some 200 years ago. Small, underpowered and underfunded country of patriots (one persons patriot is another persons terrorist, though I think the British used the term "rabble" for us) stands up for liberty and freedom and the pursuit of happiness, and stay in your land, not mine.

You know what they say - those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Recent events make one wonder if we are just like the British, when they were at their pinnacle of power - money, influence and/or military force will fix everything, and too blind to see that we are already on the downward slide, 11 trillion or so and counting. A very sad state of affairs.
