That''s a good headline. Without it one may have a problem knowing if its from al Quaida or the Democrat party. Both are in a race to see who hates Bush most.

Wrong-Footed Bush Forced to Rethink Policy on Pakistan

by Ewen MacAskill

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration was yesterday hurriedly trying to find a Plan B for Pakistan after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.

US officials based in Pakistan were sounding out senior members of her opposition Pakistan People%u2019s party about a possible successor. They were also in contact with members of the other main opposition party, the Pakistan Muslim League, led by Nawaz Sharif, even though the US had previously opposed his return to Pakistan because of links between his party and Islamist extremists.

President George Bush called for the election to go ahead, though he avoided mention of whether Pakistan should stick to the January 8 timetable. An announcement on whether to delay the election has been left until the end of the three days of mourning.

Asked whether the US was confident that Pakistan could stage an election in January, the US state department spokesman, Tom Casey, said: %u201CWell, we%u2019re going to see what happens.%u201D

The assassination of Bhutto has thrown into disarray Bush administration hopes of establishing a degree of security in Pakistan. Since 9/11, Bush has relied on the military-run government of President Pervez Musharraf as an ally in the fight against the Taliban and al-Qaida. With Musharraf%u2019s loss of popularity, the administration placed its hopes on a return to democracy and the emergence of a Musharraf-Bhutto coalition.

US intelligence analysts warned that al-Qaida, which has a hold in Pakistan%u2019s tribal areas - where the US believes Osama bin Laden is hiding - and in cities such as Karachi would be strengthened by the chaos in the aftermath of the assassination.

John McLaughlin, former acting director of the CIA, predicted that the chaos would last for weeks at least and that the capacity of Pakistan%u2019s authorities to deal with al-Qaida during that time would be diminished.

The Bush administration is worried that Pakistan could fall into the hands of radicals, undermining its battle against the Taliban and al-Qaida in Afghanistan and raising the spectre of nuclear weapons in the hands of Islamists hostile to the west.

The present head of the CIA, Robert Gates, warned last week that al-Qaida was focusing its efforts on Pakistan.

Kleedwin boils it all down to "it''s all a matter
of hating Bush".

No, it''s all a matter of why we hate Bush.

No, we are looking for him in other ways. Such as, the 40K troops that are in Afghanistan (just in case we can capture terrorist that may be able to pinpoint his whereabouts in Pakistan), or other OVERT ways, such as the drones.....

Just because the shut down that unit does not mean that we stopped looking for him.

I may hate this Religious Nut Case but you have to admit he''s pretty smart. Here he is within reach of starting a Civil War in Pakistan and he''s encouraging those who fought us and those who''s leader was Saddam to continue to fight. He keeps us tied up in Iraq and the longer he does so the closer he come''s to getting his hands on that Nuke he''s wanted so long. Now folks take it from someone who has fought the Klan, putting something like that in the hands of a leader who thinks he is the choosen one and you got a real problem. Just think about it like you were a G-A-Y person and you handed the US Military to Pat Robertson in this nation. Sieg Heil Bush!

The extension of the U.S. buildup means American troop levels in Afghanistan, which increased this month to about 26,000 %u2014 the highest of the war %u2014 will remain roughly the same until at least spring 2008. A level of 22,000 to 23,000 had prevailed through much of last year.

Reuters UK December 30, 2007 Reports: "Bin Laden says U.S. seeks to exploit Iraqi Oil". OBL states: "America seeks, alongside it''s agents in the region, to create an allied government...that would accept in advance the presence of major U.S. bases in Iraq and give the Americans all they wish of Iraqi Oil.

with 1/6 the amount of forces on the ground as are in Iraq - an invasion and occupation based on the lies of one person - "curveball".

What does your beloved stratfor say about going to war based on the story of one defector, that Germany warned us was probably lying?

HUNGRY/FORMER -- A challenge to you both. Find, and then copy and past on here now where I said that the CIA DID NOT, I repeat DID NOT close that OBL unit a couple of years ago?

Everyone knows that they did. What I said was that just because they closed the unit, does not mean they have stopped looking for him.

I make my best judgements from those sources. Not just dish out a bunch of paranoid nonsense like you do.

Posted by poopusbuttus at 09:21 AM : Dec 30, 2007

I questioned you the other day on why Bush gave up the search for bin Laden, and you came up with some smart azz answer that, as usual, made no sense.

When I pointed out that Bush withdrew the troops down to a level of ONLY 26,000 troops and disbanded the CIA unit in charge of looking for him in 2005, you said that he did that because bin Laden was in Pakistan. (In direct disagreement with the 2005 and 2006 NIE reports.)

Now you''re changing your story and saying "the search goes on".

Which is it - did they call off the search because he''s in Pakistan or does the search go on?

Maybe Stratfor''s information is a little too confusing for you, no?
