Given the religious environment of the Sudan and the fact that they are hypersensitive to any negative remarks, facial expressions, or funny sounds emitted regarding Islam, not to mention they will cut off your tweeter for doing so, why would Miss Gibbons make such a foolish mistake by allowing her students to name a teddy bear Muhammed?

Why be there in the first place? Better she get a job as some rich kid''s nanny back in London.

I agree with you. Injustice is injustice, I don''t care who holds the power. Some people use religion as an excuse to hurt others, while others use ideology. Whatever, but in the end it is always about fanaticism and a lack of compassion.

jmcgilvray, you are on a total red herring. You don''t want to admit that politics is as much to blame for world violence as religion is, you just want to harp on the evils of religion. You need to read more of the journals of the top Nazis. They used religion to get decent people to buy into their programs. Goering himself said that when they were done with the Jews, they were going to exterminate the Christians, too. I feel bad that you are having a hard time seeing beyond your own agenda to the truth, but your diversion is just a red herring meant to divert focus toward your pet peeve.

dogsoul, you have got a weak case. You can talk about Stalin, who was a communist, or Hitler, who was a fascist. But none of these leaders did what they did in the name of atheism - because they did not believe in God. That was incidental, in my opinion. Religious people, on the other hand, have committed countless atrocities in the name of their religion.

We atheists have also endured (and for sure still endure) great persecution. Only 300 or so years ago I would have been burned at the stake for not believing in God. We are not evil and most of us have great morals.

There are two types of atheists. 1) the "**** everybody I dont care about that God ****" and 2) the people who are better critical thinkers than all religious people who have their beliefs as a result of logical thinking.

I cannot prove God does not exist but you cant prove that Santa Claus does not exist...does that put us at 50/50?

People that are entirely convinced of their religion (like a few that post here) are a major danger to society. There is no room for negotiation for them. It would be like trying to negotiate with us rational people about the fact that 2+2 does not necessarily equal 4. These people are sick and I wish they would realize it, but I have no doubt that they wont. Fundamentalists majorly lack critical thinking skills. They may be intelligent in some other senses, but in critical thinking they fail miserably.

This kind of article ALWAYS brings out the smug atheists... but the reality IS that in the sum total of war & human destruction this earth has seen... religions account for but a small tiny fraction compared to what was motivated by the purely animal secular reasons of greed, power, land, etc...

And I submit that in sum total, religions have done FAR more to TEMPER that aspect of the human animal than they have to ignite it...

The great thing about atheists though is that ultimately... they''ll ALL either be proven right or wrong - and boy if they''re wrong it''d suck to be them...

First of all... WHY WHY WHY do these idiots go live in these filthy countries with those Islamic animals...

Honestly, at this point - after what I''ve learned about Islam - I don''t even hold them responsbile for themselves anymore... that''s a trait I apply toward higher beings. It''s like a person wandering into the snake pit & getting bitten - well do you blame the snake? Naw... it''s a snake, what do you expect??? Same goes for these Islamic animals - you simply can''t hold them to the same human standard...

Religion is and has always been a double-edged sword. Because religion in essence is very complex, it is always subject to interpretation. At its best, it can provide a means of unity for a people, and a moral structure to provide stability. At its worst, it can lead to hatred, violence, and persecution. The problem isn''t the religion itself, but its current leaders. Because leaders in religious groups are always trusted to provide the ''correct interpretation'', and are prone to corruption [by virtue of the fact that they have political power], religion can easily be used for immoral purposes. As religious texts are written by man, they are prone to contain biases and prejudices that would otherwise not be there. The use of religion to persecute people of differing races, religions, gender, and sexualities is a result of man''s interpretation of religion. However, one must not discredit the inherent strengths that religion gives people in times of crisis. The problem is not in religion itself, but in its inevitable corruption through interpretation.

Also, I give my regards to this woman who was just trying to connect with, and help children in a developing country.

Izlam. Moozlim. Allaaa. ROFLMAO. And it is said that "human''s" are the intelligent species. Too funny.

I have a Silver German "Mother''''s Cross" from 1938 with a swastica on the front and Adolf Hitler''''s signature on the back. The Cristian Nazis and the Fascist Muslims have a lot in common with their hatred of the Jews.
