I''m sick and tired of listening to the babel that ANWR oil would be some kind of salvation. At our current rate of use it might satisfy 5%.
That childish neocon word change of freedom fries could be ironically applicable.
Look to the French for freedom. They get 80 percent of their electric energy from nuclear. They have samll meltdown proof local reactors. Make the damnn
cars run on electricity, and "voila" you can tell the middle east and Hugo bye bye.
and for all you handwringers over the waste disposal "problem, I would rather bury radioactivity 5 miles down than pump the air full of ***** like we are doing now.

Great post. The neocons are one extreme of it. I''ve worked in a health food store where it gave me the chance to see firsthand the other extreme of the political spectrum in the US: The New Age crowd.
Many of them vegetarians, even vegan, with a too idealistic view of the world.
Try telling them about nuclear energy and how much better it fares compared to other sources of energy.
Try telling them how most recycling is useless since it uses more resources and energey than simply throwing trash away.
They''ll go nuts on you. They simply won''t listen to anything you have to say about these matters and the US suffers because of it.

This is not a bad thing. There may be some good that could come of this, but not in the foreseeable future.
It''s certainly better than a cut and run exit.

Orwell was only off by a couple of decades.

Actually he was a little late, remember who was president in "84? Or earlier still, what our government was doing in "72? (now I am old enough to remember, maybe you are of a younger generation).

When will the oil start flowing from Iraq? Who will get the money?

Anyone that is considering voting for any of the 17 candidates needs to just hand his life over to the NWO. That is all any of them truly represent. Do you believe that the additional powers the executive branch has now will disappear instead of being expanded by the next president? Wake up the coffee is hot and ready to serve. Otherwise take your valium, ambiens and submit to the stupor of the current state of the US.

I tried my best to tell everyone this was going to be another Korea and sure enough it is becoming one. This is what happens when we elect lapdogs both political parties instead of statesman. None of the current crop of lapdogs will reverse this or revise it. If the US citizens would wake up and realize the only way that we can end this debacle is to rid ourselves of dependence on oil with alternative energys and in addition draft a statesman for congress, the presidency. My dogs have more sense than all 436 of the representives along with the current crop of lapdogs combined. So either wake up or keep bowing/praying to the golden republicans and golden democrats and embrace the NWO. Orwell was only off by a couple of decades.

ainttaken: I agree with you, mostly. The problem is, we''re not the French. They have a more socialistic society, where the government is able to invest more in long-term solutions. The U.S. is more capitalistic, focusing more on short-term gains. And right now oil is the most expedient resource. Until something else comes along that is more cost effective right now, oil is it.

You dufus Americans don''''t get that oil, the international elite get the oil, and they''''ll ship it right to China and India to prop up their risky investments there. We willg et what bushit has been giving us all along - the finger and our jobs stolen and given to foreigners.

Which is why the Bush administration wouldn''t agree to a congressional demand that the oil taken out of the ANWR be used in the USA only before they''d allow drilling. The oil that they take from there would be destined for China and not us.

The simple fact is: We are there for the oil. I say this without dismay or negativity. The fact is, we need the oil. Demand for oil worldwide will continue to skyrocket, especially with the explosive growth of China''s and India''s economy, and there''s only so much oil in the ground. These countries are securing their supply anywhere they can, from anyone willing to sell it to them. The U.S. only has Saudi Arabia as its reliable source, until now, assuming Iraq can be stabilized. Americans should be prepared for a permanent presence there.

People keep talking about conservation and renewable resources. Forget it. It''s simply not enough. Realistically, the only way people will start to conserve is when the oil starts to run out. Until then we''ll all be merrily (or grumblingly) consuming away. It''s just human nature. All the conservation effort is ultimately fruitless. Even if everybody actually conserves (highly unlikely), it will only delay the inevitable.

So, if you really want to have alternative energy sources, here''s the solution: Let the oil run out. Believe me, when it does people will get real creative real quick. Until then, stop stressing out for no good reason.

"(such as investment opportunities for American companies),..." aka Halliburton, aka Hunt Oil...

The US should be PROUD! We genocided millions of their people, and most of the rest we made homeless. And now, we''ll have their oil. They''ve finally convinced Mr. Malaki that if they don''t get it, they will keep sending Al Queda back again, and again, and again until they do. It''s pathetic. And they got their oil with YOUR money. They didn''t spend one dime of their own billions. They stole it from the Iraqi''s and YOU.

All you Bush lovers, stand up and be proud of what you''ve done to this country. And please, at least, go out and meet a plane with a body bag on it. Put a sign on it that says...."I voted for Bush! By GOD we got the oil."

You don''t already hear the distant rumblings? I don''t have to start one, it is beginning on its'' own. This country cannot last much longer under the current rampant corruption, and, like the former Soviet Union, will soon begin to tear itself apart.

STOP WHINNING AND JUST CONSERVE..its a lot better than driving a caravan to a protest..
Posted by libsluvsuvs

You raise this point repeatedly. I can agree with you here, but I cannot agree with your assertions that what Bush has done was somehow the right thing to do. What you call "whining" is actually letting people know that there are those of us who see through Bush''s lies. To "stop" as you suggest, is nothing more than passive support.

I am no more than the smallest pebble, a grain of sand, but I am one grain who stands in resistance of the Bush klan and his fascists. He can roll right over me, but cannot change me, and I will not be passive and silent if given voice..

I can at least sleep without a sense of guilt that I might willingly aid my enemy''s efforts against me and mine, and that I at least raise my voice against the slave masters.
