The United States deserves Hugo Chevez and Mahmoud Ahmadinejihad! For over 30 years the U.S. dragged its feet, not creating alternatives to dependence on foreign Oil and now the chickens have come home to roost! This nightmare was predicted and ignored, thats what we get! We deserve this!

By the way, I run my VW on biodiesel, so I''m a spectator in this sick game, not a participant. It''s an easy choice.

The war on terror has worked perfectly! Oil was $24 a barrel when Bush took office, now it''s up to $96. If US oil companies had wanted to raise the price that much, they would have been laughed at as cheap oil from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Venezuela and Russia continued to crank out cheap oil. We STOPPED the flow of oil out of Iraq, created an uncertain supply of oil from the entire middle east, and convinced the entire world that anyone could be America''s next target.

That decrease in flow, fear and uncertainty has helped US oil companies to reap record profits, while also keeping the military industrial complex fed beyond their need.

So you don''t own an oil company or fix bombed out buildings? Too bad. You don''t matter. Bush, Cheney, and Condi are all huge power players in the oil and war business, and so are ALL their friends. They don''t even care if they''ve destroyed their party and lost their evangelical base, they''re set for life, and so are their children and their friends.

Chavez is sitting on a huge pool of oil, and is the only one who is who is showing a shred of responsibility to humanity. AND he actually cares if his country survives!

edward 1975 has it right. The gas companies profitted 4 billion dollars (and more) in 3 months time; and that was last year; probably a great deal more this year; the American people are being ripped off by oil companies and Congress which is owned by big business who lets them do exactly what they want to do.

People will just tell you that it is the Big Oil companies keeping us from getting energy independent.

Why are we even worried about what OPEC does. We have the ability to be oil independent if we so desire to. Tell OPEC to eat their oil and cut off all aid to OPEC nations. Wonder how oil and bread taste. We have the entire west coast of capped wells, as well as the oil deposits in southern Utah, that in itself would make us oil independent. Americans need to stop buying into the notion we need Mid-East oil. It''s a myth! Let''s see them grow grain and ranch beef out in the desert.
