Your post is wisdom. The Nuremburg trials established that "just following orders" was no excuse for war crimes, and that was followed during the My Lai massacre trials.
It was accepted practice that soldiers were not obligated to follow unlawful orders, until the Bush klan changed that little proviso. Since then, desertion is the only option when faced with an order to do what you, and everyone else knows is wrong. - Reply to this comment

- these people enlisted in the army, took the money and benefits, then when the time came to really serve they chickened out... since no war was declared they are not eligble for the death penalty. but should serve a long sentence in ft leavenworth ks..

- The time to make the decision not to serve is before your sign up. I can understand leaving the country to avoid the draft when you have no choice. But to leave when you''ve already signed up to serve and protect is a really complicated issue.
This is an illegal and immoral war. And I can''t find fault with them for not wanting to fight it. And I understand Canada''s point of view in their decision.
