Canada Rejects Appeal By 2 U.S. Soldiers Who Fled To Canada In Protest Against Iraq War
- These are not political blinders it does not matter what party was in office when we invaded as virtually every member of congress voted for this war. At the time the intel was revealing to the public that Saddam did not possess a missile that would hit Israel let alone the US. Saddam had made no threats against the US and was not funding the terrorist that attacked the us on 9-11. Those were primarily from Saudia Arabia the nation who just sentenced a woman to 200 lashes for being raped. No every book from every former adminstration official of Bush has stated that 11 days after taking office Bush wanted a battle plan for Iraq when we were hit on 9-11 Bush wanted Richard Clarke to blame it on Saddam which Clarke would not do. Invading and destroying a nation that is not a threat to the US is a crime. Iraq was not a part of the war on terror until we invaded and toppled the regime in power. Iraq has (quoting NIE) become a melting pot for terrorist because of our invasion. Thus Bush enabled the terrorist.

- Bush and company sold the invasion of Iraq to a fear-driven gullible American public, and they bought it by abandoning all common sense as to who the real enemies were. It is too late, the damage has been done, lives have been lost, and yet Bush and company are not accountable for their misdeeds. You have to love American Justice and the political system. While some governments are openly corrupt and devious, the Bush Administration is covertly deceptive, corrupt, and brutal. It seems that Bush/Cheney is incapable of remorse or guilt. By not prosecuting these criminals, the American public is complicit in their misdeeds.

- Radical Isalm created the Jihad against America, remember it was proclaimed by Osama? I do!
If more radical Muslim extremests join the fight because America is actually fighting back, so be it! We have witnessed what the consequences of "leaving them alone" results in, remember 911?
These Muslim Jihadists preside in EVERY country in the middle east INCLUDING Iraq. So get take off the political blinders and choose sides.
For the Muslim radicals, democracy is the beginning of the end. There 6th century theocracy cannot survive in modern democracies, they cannot control countries populace with caliphates if the people have a voice and power.
Every time people critisize an effort to end the tyranny of radical Muslim regimes, it emboldens the militants.
Why does the left in this country critisize America while at the same time are silent to the attrocities commited by the radicals? Because if they were to speak out against the radicals there agenda of pascifism at all cost would be nonsensical. - Reply to this comment
- the Jihad against America - radio
i agree -
the hundreds of thousands of dead iraqis killed by Bush &Co. have all mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, uncles and cousins - do you think this will all be forgotton?
the problems is we will be taking the hits in the future, not our political "leaders" who allowed this to happen - except for good ole Sen. Byrd who cried out in the Senate "where is the discussion, why are we so silent?"
Yes, Bushit is the creator of the Jihad against America... - Reply to this comment

Is this not what Bush started? He had the nation behind him almost 100% when going after Bin Laden and then he took the nation on a detour on a road that was filled with pot holes that would swallow a semi in the name of defense of our nation when all reports NIE etc. have stated time and time again that the war in Iraq has created more terrorist. A real "witches brew" . - Reply to this comment
- I think any young service person, whatever "contract" he signed, who decides this Bush War is immoral and a total fabrication from start to finish and deserts or refuses to serve - should be given a medal.
These guys are patriots, no doubt. - Reply to this comment

- Hinzman and Hughey deserted the U.S. Army in 2004 after learning their units were to be deployed to Iraq to fight in a war they have called immoral and illegal. The men argue that serving in Iraq would force them to commit crimes against civilians, and that they would be persecuted if forced to return to the United States.
Their reasons are based upon "policy" not conscientious objector status. Hinzman refused to go to Afghanistan after serving three years in the army (about the only policy of Bush''s I agreed with as this was where Al Queda launched its operations from)he was not opposing the war in Iraq. With Hughley no explanation was given. These two are not good examples of those who deserted based upon our policy in Iraq. - Reply to this comment
- CBS reports now over 6''000 (six thousands) young service-persons have committed suicide after returning from the Bush War.
Being asked to kill, maim, and destroy in the name of morally correct fight (Nazism) is ok thing -
being asked to do the same in an immoral and fabricated pre-emptive war isn''t the same -
any soldier who decides to stand down in this *******-up bush no-brainer, it ok by me. - Reply to this comment

- Human beings are under no obligation to risk their lives when an operation is poorly planned, for no true present danger to their country.

Excuse me, am I wrong or is this a VOLUNTER military? What they think it is good enough to sign up for all the perks, and then when THEIR lives might be in danger (which they knew may happen-there is always that possibility and anybody who tries to deny they knew it is a liar) they are all of the sudden conscientious objector ? Give me a break!! I call it being a chicken ***. No one twisted their arm to go into the military, or take the pay and medical that come with it.
It is pretty hard for me to find any sympathy when I have not 1 but 2 very good friends over there now risking their lives so people can have a better life there and we can be safer here
You can say my head is up my rear if you like but at least it is getting SOME amount of oxygen and logical thought processes coming out of it - Reply to this comment
- These men VOLUNTEERED to be SOLDIERS! When it came time to follow through and follow orders they ran. If fighting for America was not what they could do then they shouldn''t have JOINED, it''s that simple. To denegrate the U.S. and justify these men''s actions is not defensible. Why didn''t Canada grat asylum? Because these men are LAW BREAKERS.

- Hwy71So, Knuckleheads, my friend the two deserters would normally have been taking in by Canada, but Bush pressured Canada to change its laws. Most of the deserters are not indians and don''t feel comfy to the south. Canada was like a social escaped valve, particularly for academic resisters or integrationists like these young men. It is about Bush because in this very specific case it was his Yale based politically correct stupidity that made him close the valve, not the Devil, and now the martial vessels he was supposed to foster want to burst. He hangs out with former communists, what is he? The communists would have closed the valve. He closed the valve, is he communist, say Trotskyite like his friends and radio voices? It''s about Bush as much as it''s about these two deserters and knucklehead neocon_artists.

- Hwy71So, if there were no bonuses and no national guards invoved, then the "All Volunteer Force" moniker might make sense, but as it we are using mercenaries under the cloak of uniforms. BlackWater is what you get with mercenaries ... trigger happy liars shooting and wasting bullets when things could potentially be dangerous ... these kind of people lose wars with great regularity, as our high density of euro mediterraneans from defeated clans fleeing conflect testifies. National Guards are not supposed to be used or abused the way Bush and his NeoCon_artists have used their authority. What was done is a crime and after this war, we should in reflection hold trials and commit some political, religious and social engineers to terminal prison sentences. I suppose a few should be hung for treason and war profiteering. The phrase "it''s not over until it''s over" will echo for decades as the thought criminals are determined, located and hung for crimes against rational systems.

- You are totally missing the point, to think that "deserting" based upon conviction of objecting to a flawed policy is not courageous. There is the separation of family and friends to never see or here from except on occasion, the emotional "backlash" from ones family and friends, to risk ones "citizenship" based upon ones convictions and possibly jail time, possible future employment etc., to live in "self exile" from ones native home.

- You knuckleheads. This isn''t about Bush, its about these two criminals.

- Desertion does NOT require courage. It is pure cowardice. They are simply RUNNING AWAY. Perhaps its best they run while they are not in theatre so as not to put fellow soldiers in harm''s way.
Either way, they LIED UNDER OATH. - Reply to this comment
- speakinup, the issue of benefitting is not the same as doing something to specifically benefit. Let Bush''s family oil holding = H, Let the price of a barrel of oil when we first entered Iraq = P. Since the price has quadrupled in some currencies, let the new value of Bush family holdings = N. To write, N=4H since the new price per barrel is 4P now, is not too far off. What part of 4 times H, the previous value of holding don''t you understand. It seems brianbwb doesn''t need to give you written proof, you need to think to realize what truth is, and perhaps learn some grade school math.
