Comments on: U.N. Again Urges U.S. To End Cuba Embargo
Annual Resolution Is Mainly Symbolic; Cuban Government Hails Motion As A Victory
- I continue to think that the UN would be be served having it''s HQ in another country. I feel the US would certainly be better served. I am tired of all these countries continually voting against the US over practically everything. These other countries are the first to come begging for help whenever. These other countries abuse the privilage of being allowed to live "free" in this country. I think it''s long past time to tell the UN to find a new home, to pack their bags, and get out of our free country! It''s time they started asking these other countries for the same entitlements they have received here with no appreciation. Good ridence!

- Embargo has changed nothing - Cuba has become not the least bit communist because of it. Our isolating them is only propping Castro up. It''s just plain dumb. And there''s no reason - we trade with far, far worse regimes, because we know that trade is the best route to undermine a bad government.

- Who cares what the UN saids? It is a dead-headed organization that hates the western culture and all it stands for. What we really need to do is to move it out of the US and let it settle in some third world backwater hole.Maybe Cuba will take them.....

- It is probably time. We will win their hearts and minds with Coca-Cola, Levis, and SUVs.

- Our embargo on Cuba is the height of hypocrisy. Our foreign policy is being held hostage by a bunch of old, corrupt Cuban exiles that are pseudo-citizens at best. Ending the embargo will not get rid of Castro, but we would be in a better position to influence his successor. The amount of US $ and ideas flowing in would overwhelm Castro''s ability to control it. We had relations with Communist Russia whose crimes were far worse. We have current relations with China, Vietnam, Sudan, Libya, and so many other petty dictatorships that Cuba would be no different. I will not defend Castro, but his main reason for being is the level of corruption that Batista allowed caused the revolution. Those old men in Miami treated their citizens with contempt. The main backer of that corrupt regime was the U.S. Just like Iran and Iraq we backed leaders that wound up costing us.

- libsluvsuvs. . . re millionaires in Cuba. Being a millionaire isn''t all it''s cracked up to be. And when is the last time one of them helped you out personally?

- As a U.S. citizen I am all for relations with Cuba. This has gone on for so long most people, myself included, probably cannot remember why this all happened. Seems like they keep offering an olive branch and for some reason we burn it. Does not sound logical to me. Communism is not a threat any more. Cuba is our neighbor so lets open the door. If we really want to help the Cubans along with civil rights and such opening the door is a great first step. Once Walmart gets there we got ''em.

- most pro-cuban liberals would argue that cuba would be a better place for its citizens once we lifted the embargo..I THINK THEY MISSED A VERY IMPORTANT FACTOR ON THAT ONE...
CUBA IS STILL RUN BY CASTRO...
the same people who thinks that as soon as we give castro extra revenue that he would miracliously ease his death grip on its citizens..
what we would have is people STILL LIVING IN POVERTY..and a WELL FUNDED COMMUNIST REGIME...
of coruse most of these liberals think that if we forgive the debts of these african dictators THAT POVERTY ENDS IN AFRICA..THEY WERE WRONG THERE AND THEY ARE WRONG HERE.
btw..would castro shoot his citizen if he tries to leave that god forsaken island?? - Reply to this comment
- I believe we should keep the embargo on Cuba and if it wasn''t for China holding so much of our debt I would be in favor of putting an embargo on them.

- The only reason that the Washington Regime maintains its embargo is because Cuba stood up to the Sugar Cartel, Big Oil and the Crime Syndicates. We do billions in trade with Red China, which continues a brutal occupation of Tibet, sells the body organs of political dissidents and works sweated labour in abominable conditions...Cuba could have been just like Haiti today if it had given in to Big Capital.

- Perez Roque, in his address, accused the United States of violating international law, depriving Cuban children of medication, punishing anyone doing business with Cuba, and even preventing Cuban writers from participating in a book fair in Puerto Rico, which he called "a barbaric act."

- It is hard to believe that the US does still not understand that Cuba would become free so much faster with an end to the embargo. If Cuba were suddenly flooded with US products and aid, the current government would not last six months. But it appears that the US needs to invent enemies to keeps its own citizens in check.

- Year after year we provide ourselves as a ready enemy for the Castros to rally Cubans against. Has the embargo changed anything? No.
Meanwhile China conquers us economically, day by day, with cheap *** that keeps the uber-capitalists (READ: those with political or economic power) in profits. We run up a constantly increasing trade deficit even while Washington runs up a budget deficit, financed more and more by paper held by China.
News flash: China is a communist state with close ties to North Korea and probably Iran. Where is their embargo? We misplaced it under some lead-painted movie-tie-in toys in a discount bin at Wal-Mart. - Reply to this comment
- fine..as soon as fidel ends his communist hold on cuba and step down.
Funny how the UN has this talent in supporting the wrong people. - Reply to this comment
