What's a "fair wage?" How much should an unskilled laborer make? Why should we all have to pay a premium because of someone's poor choices in life?

More than $2hr, or whatever servers minimum wage is. If you want laborers, and no one applies, raise the rate, until you have applicants.

I would think that the toy makers would specify how the toys are made and monitor the results. They act as if they have no say in the process and they just sell the stuff.

If an American worker made the toy at $8 and hour with automation instead of a foreign worker at $1 an hour with no automation, the toy might cost $1 extra.

But the consumer does not get to make that choice, it is made in the board rooms to increase profits, the consumer can either buy or not, that is the only choice that they have.

Okay all of you ragging on the illegals like they are just animals, let me know how many of you big mouths are willing to get in the field or work in the warehouse with no air conditioning and work for 7 dollars an hour.No over time pay, because it is considered seasonal work,and work 12-14 hours a day. Sometimes 6 days a week. And because you speak limated or no english(now don't get me wrong I believe if you want to live here you need to speak english,BUT give'em a chance to learn) is it right to be treat like slaves. Would you like someone screaming in your face things that you have no idea what it is. And for you all you heartless people most of them are here because the money they make feeds their families. If they didn't their children (ages 5 and up)would probaly have to stop school and go to work. Plus if they were not here you would not have any fresh fruits, vegtables, or poultry to eat. Most of them would become legal if the rules were not so tight. Most of them want to do the right thing!

Don't worry folks. This is probably just the tip of the iceberg and the problem has likely been around for years and only discovered recently, and probably not limited to just toys. That means most people and their children have been exposed. At any rate, the symptoms will not appear until years from now, by which time it will be too late to sue the manufacturer for compensation, and your insurance will probably decide not to cover you anyway. So relax, don't worry, and keep consuming. I mean, these products are just so cheap, how can you just pass them up?

Pay a man a fair wage, and you will have no problem finding labor. This country has too much greed from business owners who will not pay their workers fairly. It is sad that waiters have to grovel for tips, because the restaraunt owner is too cheap to pay them. Even after we pay 4x what the food is worth.

I went in to Wal-Mart last weekend to buy a pound of crawfish for a dip I was making. I was SHOCKED to see the frozen tails came from China!

That's when it hit me. With all the dog food problems, toy problems, God only knows what else.....it's like we sold our soul to freakin' CHINA!!

When did the Chinese take over US products to this degree??? Well I for one am taking a stand!

No more General Tsu chicken
No more Jackie Chan movies
No more Wal-Mart

Seriously, I'll shop on line and buy my stuff in advance from American companies. This is a big pile of horse squeeze!!!!!

You don't get it. The illegals are paid inferior wages. All these jobs were held by Americans until the wage became unlivable for people who have to pay taxes, buy healthcare and live as families, not hordes under a single roof, sharing rents. As a college student in Fresno, we picked and packaged fruit. We did gardening and worked in fast-food restaurants. We wasked cars and did all these jobs you claim Americans won't do. You are full of you know what.

Illegals have ruined the wage base in this country and unscrupulous, greedy, scumbag employers are supporting it for no other reason than to line their pockets. It does no good for the American populace.

Americans will do any job that pays a legitimate wage and don't kid yourself. Illegals need to be thrown out and now.

Low prices are a ruse made up by CEO's to give them targets for ROE, justifying their multi-million dollar bonuses. Low prices are another ruse to convince Americans that lettuce has to go up in price if we don't coddle the illegals. Machines will be developed in a heartbeat to pick lettuce and all other crops, faster, cleaner, and cheaper than the wages they pay illegals. The only ones who cry about the cost of lettuce don't really count anyway. They cry about everything because they don't work. They are on the county dole.

Why aren't the companies that outsource their manufacturing doing quality assurance on the products they receive back -- before they put them out to the consumer? Penny wise, pound foolish. I hope some serious fines are levied.

First, stop buying toys from China. Make the manufacturers make their products in countries that value safety and don't use prison labor to make them. Nobody will die from not having a toy. Next work on moving the food additives from China. Immediately implement a testing initiative that is paid at the port, that is paid for by the food distributor. Once the charge for the inspections make the cost of the product more than the cost from more responsible countries, the production facilities will move.

Blame .. it is easy .. greed! American CEOs hold the almighty dollar as their only goal - corporate and societal responsibility and accountability left the building during the Reagan administration.
